5 trending Prime Video movies to watch this week (March 23

Alas, spring has sprung, and as we roll through this last week of March, we’re doing so with some of the trending movies on Amazon Prime Video this week.

Heading up the list is a 2025 film based on an absurd but true story about a guy who escaped prison and hid out in a local Toys “R” Us store for months. No lie. Following that is the best coming-of-age comedy of the 21st century and a polarizing cult classic crime drama from the 1990s. Plus, more action, thrills, and killer camera work than you can stand.

Final Destination: Bloodlines

A teeth-clenching treat

Unlike other entries in the horror movie franchise, 2025’s Final Destination: Bloodlines detours from straight horror and goes for a slightly more comedic approach, acting as a sort of “death sandwich” by connecting to previous films. It functions as a prequel to the original 2000 movie and a sequel to 2009’s The Final Destination. It absolutely contains the best opening of all the entries, and the first 20 minutes are a teeth-clenching treat.

College student Stefani Reyes (Kaitlyn Santa Juana) is plagued by a violent, recurring nightmare of a 1969 high-rise tower collapse averted by her grandmother, Iris (Stargirl‘s Brec Bassinger). In disrupting Death’s design, Iris triggered a multi-generational curse where Death systematically hunts her family’s descendants in birth order, forcing Stefani to break the cycle and hopefully save her family.

Bloodlines is trending for multiple reasons. The character development is much improved compared to previous installments; the whole “family legacy” spin on the classic formula is a nice touch, and rather than being a full-on horror movie, it offers more of a nostalgic horror experience with higher stakes, grisly, elevated deaths, and killer effects and camera work.

Shadow Force

A lesson in parenting… and being a badass

If anything, Shadow Force is a lesson in parenting and doing whatever it takes to protect the child. Scandal’s Kerry Washington and Lupin’s Omar Sy star as former operatives of a secretive multinational special forces group who broke the cardinal rule, fell in love, then created a family.

As assassins Kyrah (Washington) and Isaac (Sy) go underground to raise their son, their vengeful employer Jack Cinder (Mark Strong) hunts them relentlessly. Now with a bounty on their heads, the duo must go on the run with their son and fight for their survival against those who’ve been sent to kill them.

If you dig fast-paced, “turn your brain off”-type movies full of adrenaline-fueled stunts and strong leading chemistry, Shadow Force is a great popcorn watch. The 2025 flick is likely trending due to the delightfulness of its prominent Black cast, who bring genuine charm and heart to their roles as a married couple on the run. Shootouts, car chases, and fights make for straightforward action entertainment.

The Boondock Saints

A Walking Dead star’s first major movie role

Who’s up for some vigilante action mixed with a lot of thrills? That’s what you’ll get out of The Boondock Saints, the 1999 movie written and directed by Troy Duffy in his feature directorial debut. Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery (Nefarious) star as Irish Catholic twin brothers Murphy and Conner, who are both tired of the crime overrunning their city streets.

Inspired by their faith to cleanse their hometown of evil, the two dish out their own brand of overzealous vigilante justice as they hunt and kill one notorious gangster after another. Eventually, Murphy and Conner become controversial folk heroes in their community, but an eccentric FBI agent (Willem Dafoe) is all over their blood-soaked trail, and he’s closing in fast.

Over the years, the movie has cemented itself as a “popcorn film” due to its 90s-era crime aesthetic and has become a polarizing cult classic adored for its stylish action, witty banter, and vigilante justice theme. Boondock Saints is likely trending because it’s a feel-good revenge fantasy with standout performances from Reedus and Flanery.

Superbad

A cringe-worthy look at the last days of high school

Featuring the awkwardly funny Michael Cera in his first major leading role, the comically self-aware Jonah Hill in his breakout role, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse in his first major movie role, Superbad is a stellar coming-of-age teen comedy that everyone should watch.

Inseparable best friends Seth (Hill) and Evan (Cera) are busy navigating their last weeks of high school when Seth’s crush invites him to her huge house party, and he offers to bring the booze. So, they turn to their nerdy friend Fogell (Plasse), also known as McLovin, to secure a fake ID and buy the alcohol needed so they can impress—and hopefully score with—the girls of their dreams before heading off to college. Their quest is complicated after McLovin falls in with two inept cops (Seth Rogen and Bill Hader) determined to show him a good time.

Superbad is always trending, I think, because it’s widely considered a modern classic of the teen comedy genre, merging vulgar, laugh-out-loud humor with a surprisingly sincere story about friendship and growing up. Its cringe-worthy look at the end of high school life also features iconic performances, stellar chemistry between the cast, and loads of sharp, quippy dialogue.

Roofman

Astounding and absurd but totally true

I love a good movie based on a true story, and 2025’s Roofman didn’t disappoint. Channing Tatum stars as Jeffrey Manchester, a former Army Ranger who became a notorious and strangely polite criminal in the late 90s after robbing dozens of McDonald’s restaurants through their roofs. No kidding.

After escaping from prison in 2004, the former soldier and professional thief finds a hideout inside a Toys “R” Us, where he lives undetected for months while planning his next move. It seems he’s going to get away with it too, until he falls for a divorced mom (Kirsten Dunst). As his double life starts to unravel before his very eyes, it sets off a compelling, suspenseful game of cat and mouse, and before Jeffrey can blink, his past closes in on him.

The movie is both funny and heartfelt, and Tatum gives quite a charming and emotionally complex performance that should’ve earned him an Oscar nod. Nonetheless, Rooman is trending because it’s an entertaining character study—as opposed to an action-heavy heist film—that focuses on the absurdity of Manchester’s criminal life. You’ll enjoy it more than you think.

These aren’t the only movies currently trending on Prime Video, so be sure to look around while you’re there and see what else you might be missing out on!
