Sivananda launches Hyderabad’s first free rehab for poor patients recovering from stroke, trauma

Hyderabad: Sivananda has launched the city’s first free rehabilitation care facility aimed at making post-discharge rehabilitation services accessible to economically weaker patients, particularly those referred from government hospitals.

The rehabilitation centre was inaugurated on Friday in memory of Late Pramila Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The 20-bedded centre, named Sivananda Physio Rehab, has been set up in Kukatpally and will offer rehabilitation care which is free of charge for patients recovering from stroke, trauma and other chronic disabilities.

3 out of 4 stroke patients require critical care

Organisers highlighted the growing burden of chronic diseases and the lack of affordable rehabilitation services.

They pointed out that three out of four stroke patients require critical care, nearly half need ventilator support, and another quarter require tracheostomy care.

They added that rehabilitation is essential for recovery after hospital discharge, but it has become prohibitively expensive for many families.

Poor patients from govt hospitals to get preference

The centre has been designed to make rehabilitation care equitable and accessible. Poor patients from government hospitals will be given preference for admission, according to the organisers.

The facility will cater not only to post-stroke patients but also to individuals with trauma-related injuries and long-term disabilities.

Round-the-clock care with advanced equipment

The Kukatpally facility is equipped with advanced physiotherapy equipment donated by Pradip Chaudary.

It includes separate male and female wards, a central oxygen line, para monitors and a dedicated team of doctors, nurses and physiotherapists to provide round-the-clock care.

HHF will serve as the operations partner for running the rehabilitation programme and managing day-to-day services at the facility.
