Bakasura Restaurant is a Telugu horror comedy starring comedians Praveen and Harsha Chemudu in the lead roles. The film hits the big screens today and here is our Review to know how it is.

Story:

Paramesh (Praveen), a software employee, lives in Hyderabad with four friends and dreams of starting his own restaurant. With nothing going their way, they turn to ghost-hunting videos for YouTube in hopes of making quick money. During one shoot at a palace, they discover a Tantra Sastra book and attempt a ritual to get rich. Instead, they accidentally awaken a spirit. Strange things begin happening, and the group tries to figure out who the ghost is and what it wants. The rest of the Story reveals whether the ghost turns out to be a threat or a help, and how the group deals with it.

Plus Points:

Praveen returns to a lead role after a long time and gives a sincere performance. As a middle-class man with unfulfilled dreams, he brings a natural charm, especially in scenes where he talks about middle-class people’s struggles.

The supporting cast, including Vivek Dandu and Shining Phani, deliver what’s expected. Harsha Chemudu, despite having limited screen time, leaves an impact in a key role. The film’s early interactions with the ghost are handled well and provide some fun moments.

Minus Points:

The Story had promise but loses its way in execution. After a decent setup, the film slowly loses steam. The second half, which could have elevated things, ends up only partly effective.

Scenes feel stretched for no reason, dragging the pace. The pre-climax portion at the dargah feels completely out of place and poorly written. There are other missteps too, though some are masked by emotional detours here and there.

Harsha Chemudu’s character is underwritten. His flashback feels rushed, and with a little more effort, his arc could have been a lot stronger.

Krishna Bhagavan is just about okay, and the heroines add nothing to the film. Some comedy sequences feel repetitive and forced, adding to the length without much payoff.

Technical Aspects:

Director SJ Shiva tries to balance horror and comedy, but the film suffers due to pacing issues and inconsistent writing. Cinematography by Bala Saraswathy is adequate. Vikas Badisa’s music works in a few places. Editing by Marthand K Venkatesh could’ve been sharper – too many scenes go on longer than needed. Production values are decent.

Verdict:

On the whole, Bakasura Restaurant is a routine horror comedy that clicks in a few places but struggles to stay engaging throughout. Praveen and Harsha Chemudu put in honest performances, and the first half has a few enjoyable moments. However, the film slowly loses grip, with uneven pacing and filler scenes weighing it down. It’s not a total misfire, but not memorable either. You won’t regret skipping it, there are better ways to spend your weekend.
