It tested the effects of Holy Basil extract on 100 adults between the ages of 18-65 years. Participants received either a placebo or a dose of 125 mg of Holy Basil extract twice daily for eight weeks. The research used hair and saliva tests to measure cortisol levels, blood pressure, and sleep quality. It aimed to determine how the herb affected the body’s reaction to stress. Neither the participants nor the researchers knew who was receiving the actual supplement, ensuring unbiased results
Results:

After 8 weeks of rigorous trial, the group that was taking the extract showed a remarkable 36% decrease in hair cortisol levels. That indicated a major reduction in long-term stress levels. The researchers also tested the salivary cortisol, which was also lower, meaning that the participants’ bodies handled stress more calmly. Blood pressure readings after the stress were lower as well. The cherry on top was the improved sleep. The participants reported better sleep quality on Athens insomnia scale and the data from sleep trackers also confirmed the same.
