Rambo in Love is the latest Telugu web series, directed by Ajith Reddy R. The seven-episode series has begun streaming on Jio Hotstar, with four episodes currently available. The remaining episodes will be released every Friday. Check out the Review to find out how it fares.
Story:
Young entrepreneur Rambabu, nicknamed Rambo (Abhinav Manikanta), was broken up with by his lover Sukanya (Payal Chengappa) because of how he handled their startup idea. Three years later, Rambo has set up his own office, SuRa, and runs it with his friends. Determined to take the company to the next level, he seeks a foreign investor and finds one in Mrs. Yang, who loves his idea and agrees to invest. Everything seems perfect—until Mrs. Yang brings Sukanya in as the Due Diligence Officer. The real drama begins here. Will Sukanya take revenge, or will she help Rambo succeed? The rest of the Story revolves around this tension.
Plus Points:
Payal Chengappa brings a natural charm to the screen with a restrained, subtle performance. Her role is well-written, and her interactions with Abhinav Manikanta feel genuine.
Abhinav Manikanta delivers an okay performance. Some comedic situations work, though only occasionally, and he manages to hold the screen in lighter moments.
Minus Points:
The Story is the series’ weakest point. It lacks originality, surprises, or compelling twists, offering content that feels recycled from countless similar workplace and romantic comedies. The writing team fails to create an engaging screenplay or deliver meaningful narrative momentum.
The comedy feels outdated and forced, relying on exaggerated reactions rather than natural humour. Most supporting characters are underdeveloped, with no clear arcs or purpose, making the office setting feel artificial and unconvincing.
Aside from Payal Chengappa, performances lean toward the exaggerated, with Abhinav Manikanta and others often going overboard. The series lacks genuine drama, effective comedy, or anything compelling to sustain viewer interest. Overall, it attempts to manufacture fun under the guise of corporate culture but fails to make it believable or entertaining.
Technical Aspects:
Director Ajith Reddy R struggles to extract a coherent, engaging Story from the five-member writing team.
Production values are adequate, visuals are decent, and editing is functional, though there is little in the material that demands trimming. The music is average and does little to elevate the viewing experience.
Verdict:
On the whole, Rambo in Love is largely a bland and forgettable watch. Payal Chengappa is the only performer who manages to entertain, while the rest of the cast comes across as over-the-top. The comedy is stale, the writing uninspired, and the execution weak. Even with its short runtime, the series is completely skippable.
