No longer Superman, Henry Cavill can be hurt by more than just Kryptonite.

“The Witcher” star sustained an injury ahead of filming for the upcoming “Highlander” revival, according to Amazon MGM Studios.

Production for the remake of the 1986 action movie is now expected to begin in early 2026 after the 42-year-old “Man of Steel” actor was injured during the pre-production stage, the studio confirmed to USA TODAY.

Amazon did not provide additional details on how Cavill was injured or what those injuries are.

USA TODAY has reached out to Cavill’s representatives for comment.

Cavill is slated to succeed Christopher Lambert by taking on the leading role of the mystical Connor MacLeod in the upcoming fantasy remake of “Highlander.”

The original cult classic starred Lambert and Sean Connery as immortal warriors battling to the death. The film spawned a franchise, including several sequels and a television series with six seasons.

Joining Cavill in the upcoming blockbuster are “Gladiator” stars Russell Crowe and Djimon Hounsou, “Industry” actor Marisa Abela and martial artist Max Zhang as well as “Guardians of the Galaxy” alumni Dave Bautista and Karen Gillan.

The film will be directed by Chad Stahelski, best known for the “John Wick” franchise, and is set to release in theaters nationwide.
