Federal agents use tear gas, make arrests as Portland ICE protest swells into the hundreds

Federal agents used chemical crowd control measures and arrested at least six people Saturday after hundreds marched to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building to protest the possibility of National Guard troops being deployed in the city.

About 400 people of all ages and races turned out, including families with children and retirees with walkers. As people chanted in front of the ICE building around 2 p.m., a large group of federal officers in gas masks moved into the crowd and pushed some protesters. They pointed less-lethal guns that sprayed pepper balls into the crowd and threw tear gas canisters.
