Guwahati police have arrested Assamese film actress Nandini Kashyap on July 30, 2025, after an alleged hit‑and‑run incident in which a 21‑year‑old student lost his life. The tragedy occurred in Guwahati’s Dakhingaon area in the early hours of July 25, when a vehicle reportedly driven by the actress struck and fatally injured Samiul Haque, a final‑year Nalbari Polytechnic student working with the Guwahati Municipal Corporation on streetlight repairs.

Eyewitnesses said the vehicle was traveling at over 120 km/h, and that Kashyap did not stop to offer assistance immediately after the collision. Samiul was rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), later shifted for advanced care, but succumbed to his injuries on July 29–30, prompting authorities to upgrade charges to non‑bailable sections, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash and negligent driving, and evidence tampering .
CCTV footage and bystander reports identified the vehicle and confirmed its movement away from the scene before a group of GMC workers chased it to an apartment complex in Kahilipara, where they confronted Kashyap and reportedly attempted to hide the car.
