Baptist Health employee retires after 56 years

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – It is a rarity these days for someone to stay at a single job for decades, but one Montgomery hospital employee retired Thursday after spending nearly six at Baptist Medical Center South.

Jennie Cannon has worked in the hospital cafeteria for 56 years. She says she will miss seeing the faces of her fellow staff members and will need to adjust to retirement.

“We’ll I guess I don’t have to get up at three-o-clock in the morning and get ready to be here by 4:30, so it’s going to take some getting used to and some routine,” Cannon said. “I am going to miss the people and all.”

Cannon’s friends and co-workers held a celebration for her Thursday morning to see her off into a well-deserved retirement.
