Build 27823 for Windows 11 brings GPU specs to Settings in Canary Channel

Microsoft is now rolling out the Windows 11 build 27823 in the Canary Channel of the Windows Insider Program. This is a minor update, but it includes visual changes for the Settings app and fixes problems with File Explorer, Lock Screen, printers, and more.

Windows 11 build 27823 (Canary)

According to the official changes, Windows 11 build 27823 rolls out the “Top Cards” view for the About settings page, which provides an easy way to view key tech specifications, such as graphics cards, hard drives, memory, and processors. (This view won’t appear on managed devices.)

In addition, this update fixes crash issues with the “Cameras” pages and unexpected spaces in the “Sound” settings page.

File Explorer changes

On File Explorer, this preview adds text scaling support from the “Text size” option in the Settings app for the open, save, and copy dialogs.

It also fixes a bug causing the “see more” menu to open in the wrong direction and addresses a rendering issue with the “Alt + Tab” shortcut.

Lock Screen improvements

In the Lock Screen, build 27823 addresses a crash when clicking the “Sign in Options.”

Setup with new formatting interface

Although Microsoft didn’t mention it, Windows 11 now includes a new menu for managing drives, partitioning, and formatting unallocated space using Flexible Storage during Setup (via @PhantomOfEarth).

Other fixes

In addition, build 27823 brings other lesser fixes to the operating system. For example, it fixes issues with the ctfmon.exe and GetRawInputData.

Furthermore, non-admin users can now uninstall print drivers without issues and print correctly from OneNote.

Finally, Microsoft is pushing fixes for the Blue Screen of Death error UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR during an upgrade or fresh install, issues with CopyPixels, and networking problems.

As part of the known issues, you may notice rendering problems with icons in the Taskbar and update problems with Copilot+ PCs.

Installation process

To download and install this Windows 11 build, enroll your device in the Canary Channel through the “Windows Insider Program” settings from the “Update & Security” section. Once you enroll the computer in the program, you can download the build from the “Windows Update” settings by turning on the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option and clicking the “Check for Updates” button.
