Bungie’s Marathon: Void Abilities and Traits Explained

The power of invisibility can make or break a character in a shooter game, and Bungie’s Marathon does it exceptionally well with Void. With high-rarity loot at stake, players would love to hide away from enemies when it is time to exfil. This makes him one of the most valuable characters in the game (and somewhat overpowered). With that said, here is everything you need to know about Void in Marathon, including his abilities, traits, and playstyle.

Marathon Void Abilities and Traits

Marathon has a diverse list of runners with a similar pattern of abilities and traits. The same is true for Void. He also has one primary ability, one tactical ability, and two traits. Unlike other runners in Marathon, he is an expert in stealth, making him strong in solo situations. Here’s a full breakdown of Void’s abilities and traits in Marathon.

Although Void is more of a character who shines in solo encounters, his primary ability is a massive smoke sphere. Use the Q button on PC, the LB+RB button on Xbox, and the L1+R1 button on PS5 to throw a disc of smoke. The disk bounces on the surface and detonates, creating a massive area of smoke.

Enemies inside the smoke have their optics disrupted, making it easier for Void and his friends to escape. It is a perfect ability to loot, revive, or even exfil when the time is right. The smoke detonates instantly, so you can use it as cover in big fights too.

Active Camo

As per the Marathon community, Void’s tactical ability is nearly broken. Press the tactical ability button (F on PC, LB on Xbox, or L1 on PS5) to enter camouflage mode. This will take you out of sight of any enemies on the map.

Before you start spamming this ability, remember that any active action will take invisibility away from you. That means that when you are shot, using abilities, or reloading, your camo will be briefly disrupted.

Shadow Dive

Void’s first trait is underwhelming compared to his other skills. When in the air, trigger the device to grab a smoke disc and plunge it to the ground. This will create a concealing smoke, ideal for Void’s guile in Marathon. It’s a perfect trait when you’re in the smaller areas of the Marathon maps.

Shroud

Well, along with his active camouflage, Void also has passive invisibility. His second trait, Shroud, lets you go into camo mode whenever you enter a smoke field. Once you are out of it, the invisibility lingers for a brief moment, giving you enough time to activate the tactical ability if you wish.

As I mentioned earlier, Void is like Hunter from Destiny 2. However, given that it’s a PvP extraction, the role of invisibility changes significantly. Even if you are new to the game and want to learn, you can still contribute to your team’s success with the smoke. But trust me, once you get into the groove, you can keep enemies confused about your location.

Void is also an ideal piece of the puzzle for a team composition where Glitch shines. With two almost impossible-to-catch characters on the team, looting and exfil are much easier. However, when playing as Void, you must know about your counters. Blackbird is Void’s ideal counter. Their detection abilities, drones, or traits can easily reveal Void, even when he is in camouflage.
