Doctors in Telangana must pair clinical skill with empathy, says Minister Azharuddin

Hyderabad: Minister for Minority Welfare, Mohammad Azharuddin, called upon the medical fraternity to bridge the gap between clinical expertise and humanitarian compassion.
Speaking at Red Hills on the launch of the Peace Foundation, a philanthropic initiative dedicated to providing financial lifelines to economically disadvantaged patients suffering from neurological ailments.
The foundation, established by a coalition of doctors and philanthropists, operates under the banner ‘Let’s Spread Kindness Together.’
It specifically targets the financial barriers that often prevent timely intervention in emergency neurological cases, particularly for families from minority and underprivileged backgrounds.
A call for empathy in medicine
Minister Azharuddin emphasised that social responsibility should be the heartbeat of the medical profession.
He noted with concern that many private institutions delay life-saving procedures until payment arrangements are secured. “The medical profession must be guided by empathy,” Azharuddin stated. “Many patients lose critical time because of financial limitations. This foundation aims to ensure that no one is denied care due to the weight of their medical bills.”
He further advised the public to prioritise preventative health, urging moderation in diets—especially during the holy month of Ramadan—and cautioned against the dangers of ‘self-diagnosis’ via social media platforms like YouTube.
Addressing the burden of neurological care
Neurological conditions are notoriously expensive, often requiring:
– Long-term hospitalisation
– Repeated, high-cost diagnostic testing
– Extensive rehabilitation
The Peace Foundation aims to cover hospital charges and treatment costs to prevent the ‘economic collapse’ of families when a primary breadwinner falls ill.
The initiative was spearheaded by prominent medical professionals, including Dr MA Mateen, Dr Faisal Mustafa, and Dr Syed Akbar, who were lauded for translating scientific expertise into humanitarian service.
Other dignitaries in attendance included Telangana State Waqf Board Chairman Syed Azmatullah Hussaini, alongside several senior consultants and local representatives.
