
Get ready to have something for the kids to do throughout the summer, and the best part is that it’s free! The Palace Theatre in Albany is holding its “Summer in the City” free movie series.

Each week on Tuesdays, July through August, families are invited to escape the summer heat and enjoy a free movie at the Palace Theatre in Downtown Albany. The “Summer in the City” Free Movie Series features a mix of modern classics and new favorites, perfect for all ages.

Doors open at noon, giving families time to enjoy fun activities before the movie begins. Each week also brings exciting prize giveaways, including tickets to Palace Theatre events, passes to Huck Finn’s Playland, movie tickets to Scene One Spectrum 8 Theatres, gift cards, and more. Movies start at 1:00 p.m., so please arrive early. Plus, kids twelve and under get free popcorn.

THE WILD ROBOT-Tuesday, July 22nd
The Wild Robot follows Roz, a robot who unexpectedly washes up on a remote island and must learn to survive among the wild animals. As she adapts to her surroundings and forms unlikely bonds—especially after adopting a gosling—Roz discovers what it means to belong and care.
BRAVE-Tuesday, July 29th
Brave tells the story of Merida, a headstrong Scottish princess who defies tradition and accidentally unleashes a curse that turns her mother into a bear. To break the spell and mend their bond, Merida must find the courage to embrace both her independence and her family.
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG-Tuesday, August 5th
Sonic the Hedgehog follows the world’s fastest blue hedgehog as he teams up with a small-town sheriff to stop the evil Dr. Robotnik from capturing him and using his powers for world domination. Along the way, Sonic discovers the true meaning of friendship and finds a place where he belongs.
MUFASA-THE LION KING-Tuesday, August 12th
Mufasa: The Lion King explores the origin story of the legendary lion king, following a young, orphaned Mufasa as he forges an unexpected brotherhood with Taka and embarks on a courageous journey to find his place in the Circle of Life. Told through flashbacks narrated by Rafiki (and sprinkled with Timon and Pumbaa’s humor), the film delves into themes of family, destiny, and what truly makes a king.
THE LITTLE MERMAID-Tuesday, August 19th
Ariel, the youngest daughter of King Triton, is a curious mermaid who rescues Prince Eric during a shipwreck and makes a risky deal with the sea witch Ursula—trading her voice for human legs and three days to earn true love’s kiss—setting off a thrilling journey to follow her heart, save her father’s kingdom, and bridge two worlds.
INSIDE OUT 2-Tuesday, August 26th
Inside Out 2 follows 13-year-old Riley as she navigates the ups and downs of adolescence with the help of her core emotions—Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust—plus new emotions like Anxiety and Embarrassment. Together, they guide her through challenges like peer pressure and self-discovery in this heartfelt and funny journey.
