Fatal Attraction’s Alex Forrest is arguably Glenn Close’s most iconic movie role, and she’s now opened up about how she got the part.
The 78-year-old actress spoke about the film as she appeared on the latest episode of The Kardashians. Glenn joined her All’s Fair co-stars Kim Kardashian, Sarah Paulson and Niecy Nash for a Fatal Attraction watch part in Kris Jenner’s mansion after Kim admitted she’d never seen the film.
Niecy’s wife Jessica Betts and Kris’ boyfriend Corey Gamble also joined in the fun. The group gathered in Kris’ bar area as they sipped on martinis.
Before they settled down to watch the film, Glenn exclaimed, “I wanna tell you a couple of the little tidbits about it. Like how I got cast and all that kind of thing.”
She shared, “Well, I was doing a play on Broadway and I had to let my understudy go on, which is a big deal, fly to LA. And my hair was long and wild and crazy. And I said, ‘What am I going to do with my hair?’”
Shaking her head wildly, Glenn continued, “And I finally said, ‘Oh f— it, I’m just gonna go like that.’”
She then revealed, “And I was so nervous I took a Valium.” Sarah was shocked and shouted, “Get the hell out of here!”
Glenn added, “You know I don’t take Valium. So the fact that I took it…” before Sarah cut in, “She’s a total drug addict. Just kidding.”
Glenn admitted she found it “crazy” to have taken a Valium ans said she did it because she was “so nervous.”
When she entered the audition room, Glenn explained how there was a video camera set up, with the film’s lead Michael Douglas and director Adrian Lyne on hand to do the audition.
Sarah joked, “So you walk in, Michael Douglas is there, Adrian Lyne is there, your hair’s all messy, you’re on a Valium and they’re like this is, this is our b—-.”
It wasn’t that simple, however. Glenn explained how the producers hadn’t bothered turning up to her audition “because they were so convinced I was wrong.”
After her audition, the actress said Adrian “went down the hall and said, ‘I think, I think it’s her.’”
She admitted the audition process had been “traumatic,” explaining how she finds any film audition to be “horrible.” Sarah agreed that it can be “so awful.”
Glenn also shared a funny behind-the-scenes secret, revealing, “We started doing one of the scenes and Adrian would say, ‘Oh f— me old boots.’”
Sarah was confused, with Glenn explaining Adrian said it whenever he liked what they were doing in a scene.
