iPhone 17 Pro could finally get long-awaited charging feature — what we know

As we approach the September Apple event, rumors about the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, and iPhone 17 Pro are circulating everywhere. We just saw a massive leak detailing the iPhone Fold (though that’ll be next year), and a new leak has spilled the beans on the long-awaited charging feature coming to the Pro versions of Apple’s next iPhone.
According to leaker Fixed Focus Digital, who has a decent track record with a few misses, the iPhone 17 Pro (and presumably, Pro Max) will feature reverse wireless charging, a feature that has been available on some of the best Android phones for a long time.
Unfortunately, the leaker didn’t provide many details regarding the iPhone 17 Pro’s reverse charging. They don’t mention whether it’ll be cable-based or wireless, but logically, wireless seems to make the most sense with Apple’s MagSafe feature. Previous rumors, which date back to February, don’t mention whether the feature is wired or wireless.
The iPhone 17 models were also recently tipped to feature faster wireless charging, which is great news for those who prefer to charge their phones using this method.
Reverse charging is far from a new rumor for the iPhone, as it seems to recur with every release cycle, dating back to the iPhone 11 Pro. Back then, a reverse charging (or as it’s sometimes called, bilateral wireless charging) feature was spotted during a teardown of the phone, but no one was able to activate it.
As an AirPods Pro user, the idea of charging them from my phone when I have a surplus of power sounds incredibly appealing. Sure, the AirPods have great battery life, but sometimes I forget to charge the case for whatever reason. Having access to extra power, whether wired or wireless, sounds great. We’ll see if Apple actually implements it, or if this is just another cycle in the up-and-down series of reverse charging rumors.
