Netflix is adding just 10 new shows and movies to the streaming service this week. That’s a relatively light week, but when you have a heavy-hitter like “Nobody Wants This,” you don’t need much else. Netflix’s surprise hit of 2024 is back for season 2, and after scoring three Emmy nominations, including two for its lead actors Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, it’s sure to be the must-watch show of the week on any streaming service.
“Nobody Wants This” isn’t the only must-watch title on Netflix, though. “A House of Dynamite” arrives on the streaming service this Friday, and this political thriller brings a ton of star power. It’s directed by Academy Award-winner Kathryn Bigelow and stars Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson and Greta Lee among a host of other familiar faces and names. With a movie this big coming to Netflix, you might not even need to consider going to the movies this week.

‘Nobody Wants This’ season 2

As I already mentioned, “Nobody Wants This” stars Kristen Bell and Adam Brody. She’s Joanne, a sex/dating podcaster, and he’s Noah, a young, single rabbi. They find themselves suddenly thrust into a budding relationship after being introduced by a friend.
Their romance isn’t without complications. They come from different religious backgrounds and have very intrusive families. But their unconventional relationship works, and the end result is a binge-worthy hit comedy.
Bell and Brody have great chemistry, and the show’s supporting cast is excellent. Aside from Bell and Brody, “Nobody Wants This” stars Justine Lupe as Joanne’s sister and podcast co-host, Morgan, Timothy Simons as Noah’s brother, Sasha, and Jackie Tohn as Sasha’s wife, Esther. Season 2 introduces Leighton Meester (Brody’s real-life wife) as Abby, Joanne’s childhood nemesis turned Instagram influencer, and Miles Fowler as Lenny, a potential love interest for Morgan. Trust me when I say, despite the show’s title, you definitely want this on your watchlist.

‘A House of Dynamite’

As much as I’m looking forward to “Nobody Wants This,” I’m more excited for “A House of Dynamite” than I am for any other title on Netflix this week. I love Kathryn Bigelow, and when I learned that the director of “The Hurt Locker” and “Zero Dark Thirty” was directing a new political thriller, I was immediately sold.
This movie is centered around “a single, unattributed missile” from an unknown foreign power. The missile is launched at the city of Chicago, and the movie’s plot follows the U.S. government’s response to the impending nuclear apocalypse in real-time.
Leading America is Idris Elba as President of the United States. He is supported by an incredible team of actors, including Rebecca Ferguson as military communications lead Captain Olivia Walker, Gabriel Basso as Deputy National Security Advisor Jake Baerington, Jared Harris as Secretary of Defense Reid Baker, Tracy Letts as U.S. Army General Anthony Brady, Anthony Ramos as Major Daniel Gonzalez and Greta Lee as Ana Park, an expert at the National Security Agency.

‘Michelle Wolf: The Well’

Michelle Wolf has been a controversial figure at times. She’s been a correspondent on “The Daily Show,” later guest-hosting in 2023, had her own Netflix show back in 2018 and was the featured entertainer at the 2018 White House Correspondents’ Dinner. But her stand-up at the latter event sparked outrage from some, and possibly led to the cancellation of her aforementioned Netflix show.
But whether you love her or hate her, there’s no denying she’s funny. In “Michelle Wolf: The Well,” the acclaimed comedian dives into adjusting to motherhood, as well as some spicier topics like racism, white women, serial killers and more.

‘Who Killed the Montreal Expos?’

“As good as we are in hockey, Montreal is a baseball city. That’s how Hall of Fame pitcher Pedro Martinez kicks off the trailer to “Who Killed the Montreal Expos?” and he’s not wrong. When I went to Montreal for the 2019 Canadian Grand Prix, I saw more people wearing Expos jerseys than were wearing Montreal Canadiens gear or were even wearing Formula 1 merchandise.
But the Expos have been gone since Sept. 29, 2004, when they played their final game in Montreal. Just 10 years after being the best team in baseball, the Expos left Montreal, never to return.
Most people blame the 1994 MLB players’ strike, former team president Jeffrey Loria (notably absent from the documentary) or both. “Who Killed the Montreal Expos?” looks to answer the questions about the Expos leaving town once and for all, and fans of a good sports documentary won’t want to miss it.

‘Mob War: Philadelphia vs. The Mafia’

When you think of the mafia, also known as the mob or the Cosa Nostra, you think of New York or New Jersey. With movies and shows like “The Godfather,” “Goodfellas” and “The Sopranos” being most people’s impression of the mob, it’s easy to see why the Big Apple and its suburbs spring to mind.
But New York was far from the lone venue the mafia operated in, and in the 1990s, perhaps no city was caught in the mob’s violent nature than Philadelphia. In August 1993, a power struggle between John Stanfa and Joey Merlino erupted in violence and devolved into all-out war. “Mob War: Philadelphia vs. The Mafia” dives into the causes of Philly’s mob war, its end at the hands of the FBI and all the bloody drama in between. Don’t miss the three-part docuseries when it debuts this week.

‘The Monster of Florence’

In the 1960s, a new horror gripped Italy. For the first time, a serial killer was ravaging Tuscany, brutally killing young couples. Dubbed “The Monster of Florence,” this prolific killer murdered 16 people between the late 1960s and 1985, and while the murders eventually stopped, not all the murders attributed to “il Mostro” were solved.
“The Monster of Florence” explores these heinous deaths and how they gripped the Italian people. The limited series uses real legal proceedings and investigations to create a dramatized retelling sure to grab the attention of true crime fans everywhere. Just remember to switch to subtitles if you don’t want what looks like a highly questionable English-language dub.

‘The Dream Life of Mr. Kim’

This Korean comedy-drama is another option for those who aren’t afraid of subtitles. “The Dream Life of Mr. Kim” stars Ryu Seung-ryong as Kim Nak-soo, a middle-aged corporate director who has spent 25 years working his way up at the same company. Things have been great for him, but a sudden fall from his high perch causes him to rethink his life and reexamine what really brings him happiness.
