Nintendo teases more movies to come

The Super Mario Bros. Movie was Nintendo’s big return to the big screen, and it doesn’t sound like the company has any plans of slowing down.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie released in 2023. Next year, we’ll be seeing The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. There’s also a live-action movie based on The Legend of Zelda slated for 2027.

This won’t be all. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, speaking during the company’s financial results briefing today, teased: “We are continuing to prepare for the ongoing release of movies in the future.” It seems that the company is interesting in offering a consistent release cadence moving forward.

While Nintendo has been working with Illumination and Arad Productions, the company has other approaches as well. The animation production company Nintendo Pictures was established in 2022, and we just recently saw that group create the “Close to You” short. There’s also Nintendo Stars, “a subsidiary responsible for managing the ancillary use of film content featuring Nintendo IP that “will help people around the world become more familiar with Nintendo IP and propose new ways to enjoy our characters through various licensing and secondary use initiatives.”

In case you missed it, we have the first teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie here.
