Sen. Rosen urges bipartisan action to protect affordable health care amid shutdown

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen has called on Washington Republicans and President Donald Trump to negotiate with Democrats to safeguard Americans’ access to affordable health care and resolve the ongoing government shutdown.

Speaking on MSNBC Reports with Alex Witt, Rosen highlighted a Democratic compromise proposal that aims to extend the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) enhanced premium tax credit for another year and establish a bipartisan working group to seek a long-term solution.

A recent analysis by the non-partisan Kaiser Family Foundation indicates that health care premiums could more than double if these tax credits are not extended.

In Nevada alone, nearly 95,000 people benefit directly from these credits.

“What Senator Schumer offered up today is what we’ve wanted all along: to stop millions of Americans from going over the health care cliff,” Rosen said. She emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that many Americans are facing significant increases in their health insurance premiums. “We have to get together reasonable people and figure out how to make health care more accessible and affordable,” she added. Rosen stressed the importance of bipartisan cooperation, stating, “This is an all of us problem. It’s a now problem, and every single American is in an accident or a diagnosis away from disaster.”
