Shawnee County Health Department gives free flu vaccines to uninsured adults

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – The Shawnee County Health Department (SCHD) held a drive-thru flu vaccine clinic on Oct. 4 from 12-3 p.m. at Hummer Sports Park.

Vaccine shots were administered to insured adults aged 19 and over.

Each shot was free, and there was only a few minutes of waiting time.

The health department said the goal is to keep Shawnee County healthy and safe ahead of the upcoming flu season.

“It’s wonderful, that’s why we do what we do, right?” said Skye Reid, SCHD outreach coordinator. “We’re not paid big bucks in community health preparedness, but we’re all out here because we love our community and we want to make sure that everyone in our community has the same resources, so we want to keep everyone safe and healthy, and happy.”

If concerns about getting the flu vaccine arise, the Shawnee County Health Department recommends talking to a doctor and doing further research.
