The best hotel mattresses bring the luxury comfort of a weekend away to your own home, offering you five-star sleep, seven nights a week. We’ve tested all the best mattresses of 2025 and in this guide, we’re exploring the beds that delivered a feel most similar to our favorite vacations.
So what makes hotel mattresses so comfortable? The mattresses used in hotels tend to follow several core comfort tenets: an innerspring base paired with a cushioned top to support a variety of sleep styles and body types, a durable design to withstand frequent guests, and a luxury finish so bedding down for the night feels like self care.
For this blend of all-round comfort and quality you can expect a higher price tag. Most of the best hotel mattresses are premium choices. However, we’re tracking all the latest Black Friday mattress deals, including savings on luxury beds — so you can pick up good sleep for less than a stay at the Ritz-Carlton.
1. Best hotel mattress overall

The luxury Saatva Classic Mattress has continuously impressed our sleep experts and after a recent re-testing, we discovered it was even better than we remembered. The innerspring hybrid pairs a strong supportive core with a thick quilted pillow-top to create a perfect pairing of cushioning and support — it exemplifies what we expect from the best hybrid mattresses.
Available in three feels and two heights, the Saatva Classic Mattress can suit a range of sleep styles (we tested the Luxury Firm and found it to be a good all-rounder.) And it has the best edge support of any mattress we’ve tested; you can starfish across the bed without feeling like you’ll slide off. The temperature regulation is also impressive, giving the Bear Elite, our favorite cooling mattress, a run for its money.
While the motion isolation is a slight ding (Saatva’s Contour5 is better at absorbing movement overall but the Classic performs well for a hybrid,) this is a mattress it’s hard to find fault with. So although $2,139 for a queen at MSRP is premium, we think it’s worth the investment. And if you want to try it for yourself, Saatva mattresses are found in hotels across the US.
What we like about it…
✅ Exceptional pressure relief to reduce aches and pains: A plush pillow top, targeted lumbar support and a choice of three feels ensures the Saatva Classic can ease aches and pains for most sleepers.
✅ Strong edge support: The support is excellent across the Classic, holding the spine in neutral alignment throughout the night. But we were particularly impressed with the sturdy edges. You can sit on the corner of the Classic to don your hotel slippers and the mattress stays strong beneath you.
✅ A cooler feel: The Saatva Classic has a spring-heavy build that allows air to circulate, plus an organic cotton cover to aid breathability. We found it maintains a pleasantly cool feel throughout the night.
What we don’t like about it…
❌ Average weight capacity: We’re splitting hairs here, as the 300lbs capacity per person isn’t unusual. However, if you have a bigger build, we recommend opting for the WinkBed Plus, which has been designed for heavy people.
❌ $99 returns fee: If you aren’t happy with your Saatva Classic (or you want to switch for a different feel) there’s a $99 returns fee. This isn’t a deal breaker, and other brands charge a fee, but most mattress in a box brands offer free returns. However, Saatva’s benefits are otherwise fantastic, with a 365-night trial, lifetime warranty and free white glove delivery.

I was excited to get my hands-on the Saatva Classic and this luxury mattress more than lives up to the hype: it looks worth of a five-star hotel suite and it feels like resting on a cloud. I recommend it to pretty much everyone, as the multiple firmness and height choices allow you to customize the mattress to your needs. The high price is an obstacle but comparable to the best luxury mattresses and frankly, the Classic is worth it. Look out for the $400 off Saatva mattress sale, reducing a queen to $1,739 — good value for the quality.

2. Best affordable hotel mattress

When it comes to value for money, the DreamCloud Mattress is hard to beat. The best mattress in a box we’ve tested, the DreamCloud’s medium-firm feel is supportive for back sleepers, with a quilted cover to cushion the shoulders and hips when side sleeping. Available in only one feel, it’s not as versatile as the Saatva Classic (and too soft for most stomach sleepers) but it’s also much cheaper at only $699 for a queen.
The DreamCloud performed strongly throughout our rigorous mattress testing process. The edge support is sturdy, allowing you and your partner to stretch and luxuriate, while the breathable design helps disperse heat (but the Saatva Classic or Bear Elite are better for particularly hot sleepers.) We’re also impressed with the high quality finish. Yes, it’s not quite the opulent luxury of the Saatva but the design speaks to the quality of the performance.
The biggest downside is high motion transfer, as we found movement could be disruptive (the Nectar Premier absorbs more tossing and turning.) But at this price, we expect a few weak points and overall the DreamCloud goes above and beyond its pricing. However, if it’s real indulgence you’re after, you’ll want to upgrade to a a bed like the Saatva Classic.
What we like about it…
✅ Excellent value for money: The DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress is the most affordable option in this guide, with an evergreen sale reducing a queen size to a mid-range $699. And you get a 365-night trial and lifetime warranty.
✅ Pressure relief for back and side sleepers: Our testing team agreed the DreamCloud Classic is plush enough for side sleepers and supportive enough for back sleepers, delivering the medium-firm comfort you’ll get from most hotel mattresses.
✅ Breathable with strong edge support: Although the DreamCloud isn’t our favorite cooling mattress and although the edge support isn’t as strong as the Saatva Classic, it impressed in both these categories during our Sleep Lab tests, beating out even pricier rivals.
What we don’t like about it…
❌ Bouncy feel might be disruptive: As a bouncy and responsive hybrid, you can feel movement travel across the DreamCloud. Opt for the Nectar Premier if your partner’s late bedtimes have a tendency to wake you up.
❌ Not as luxurious as other hotel-style mattresses: A mid-range mattress, it’s not a surprise the DreamCloud can’t deliver the sumptuous comfort of something like the WinkBed. If it’s the full hotel experience you want, expect to pay a premium price.
❌ Only one firmness level: Okay, this is only a problem when you consider the company the DreamCloud keeps. However, as the Saatva, Bear and WinkBed all come in multiple firmness levels, the DreamCloud lacks versatility compared to its competitors.

At just $699 for a queen in the DreamCloud mattress sale, the Classic Hybrid should struggle to compete with its pricier rivals but it puts up a good fight and I was impressed throughout the testing period. The biggest issue is motion isolation — the bouncy feel meant I was jolted whenever someone else moved position — but it’s not unusually bad for a hybrid (I found the Bear Elite Hybrid had a similar flaw and it’s at least twice the price.) As someone who dreams of luxury vacations I can’t afford, the DreamCloud appeals as a hotel-style mattress that won’t destroy my bank account.

3. Best luxury hotel mattress

While it’s the Saatva Classic that tops this guide, if you’re seeking a hotel-style bed that delivers marshmallow-esque indulgence, we recommend Saatva’s Contour5 mattress instead. Available in two firmness levels (Medium and Firm), this all-foam design delivers “full-body contour with superb pressure relief,” making it the best Saatva mattress for body-hugging comfort.
The Saatva Contour5 takes its name from the 5lb, high density foam that sits at the heart of the mattress. This dense material gives the Contour5 a feel our tester described as “goldilocks”, a “just right” blend of support and body cradling. (We tested the Medium but recommend dedicated stomach sleepers opt for the Firm.)
For bed sharers, the Contour5 offers exceptional motion isolation (restless movement is quickly absorbed by the foam.) And despite the ‘hug’, the Contour5 mattress doesn’t sleep warm — although the Bear Elite sleeps cooler. However, a weaker perimeter means the Saatva Classic is the hands-down winner when it comes to edge support.
What we like about it…
✅ Body-hugging luxury: The high-density foams used in the Contour5 cradle the joints while holding the spine supported, helping reduce pressure build-up. And you’re surrounded by indulgent comfort at the same time.
✅ Different feels available: With a Medium feel (best for side sleepers) and a Firm feel (best for stomach sleepers), the Contour5 appeals to anyone looking for a classic foam ‘hug’, regardless of preferred sleep position.
✅ Incredible motion isolation for bed sharers: Our lead tester described the Contour5 as offering the best motion isolation of any mattress she’s tested, meaning you shouldn’t be bothered by your partner’s restless night.
What we don’t like about it…
❌ Weaker edge support: While the Contour5 is highly supportive in the middle, this support tapers off at the edges, meaning you might slide off when sitting on the side. Saatva’s Classic mattress is a top performer here.
❌ No ‘Plush’ or ‘Soft’ option: This is a minor complaint but while the Classic, Bear and WinkBed all come in at least three firmness options, the Contour5 only comes in medium or firm.
❌ Not suitable for very hot sleepers: We were overall impressed with the temperature regulation of the Contour5 but for hot sleepers, we recommend a hybrid instead, as these beds tend to have superior cooling. The Saatva Classic or Bear Elite Hybrid are good alternatives with ample pressure relief.

Hotel mattresses are rarely all-foam designs but the Contour5’s body-cradling comfort and indulgent feel earns it a spot in this list. Like all Saatva beds, the Contour5 doesn’t skimp on the luxury while the supportive high-density foam core combined with its two firmness options make it a memory foam mattress for all sleepers (yes, even stomach sleepers — I’m one myself.) With an MSRP of $2,999 for a queen I suggest waiting for a Saatva mattress sale to ensure you get the most for your money, but it’s a comparably priced alternative to all-foam Tempur-Pedic mattresses.

4. Best hotel mattress for back pain

The WinkBed is more than just a hotel-style mattress, as you’ll actually find this handcrafted design in luxury hotels across the country, including the Time Hotel in New York and various Gravity Haus locations. And with its double layered pillowtop and Duratech durability system, it’s easy to see why hotelier’s opt for the WinkBed.
However, it’s the targeted support that stood out to our WinkBed review team. The coil base features multiple support “zones”, ergonomically designed to ensure your body gets strong support where it needs it most. In turn, areas with less support provide more contouring. We found this promoted “natural spinal alignment”, recommending the WinkBed to “anyone experiencing back pain.” Particularly as the four firmness levels (including a Plus option for heavier bodies) allow it to suit a range of sleep styles.
Beyond support (although it’s worth noting the WinkBed also has exceptional strong edges) the plush Eurotop delivers good motion isolation, even if it lags behind the Contour5. We also found it could trap some heat but WinkBed has taken steps to address this — a cooling cover is now available for hot sleepers.
What we like about it…
✅ Targeted spinal support to reduce back pains: The WinkBed is a hybrid mattress and the spring base features three targeted support zones, to maintain natural spinal alignment and reduce back pain.
✅ A design for sleepers over 250lbs: WinkBed’s Soft, Medium and Firm options are aligned with other luxury mattresses (like the Saatva Classic and the Bear Elite), but the addition of a Plus option gives it the edge for heavier people.
✅ Added durability features: Hotel mattresses need to remain comfortable, even with regular use from a wide variety of guests and the WinkBed has been third-party durability tested to provide support for longer.
What we don’t like about it…
❌ Sleeps slightly warmer than comparable designs: Our testers found the WinkBed slept neutral but agreed the cooling could be improved. WinkBed does now offer Frost Cooling Cover upgrade however, the Bear Elite Hybrid is a better choice for chronic hot sleepers.
❌ There are better value options: WinkBed recently upped its prices (the first price change in a long time) and a queen is now $1,799 in the sale. We think the Saatva Classic offers better value overall but the WinkBed is still competitively priced.

The WinkBed gives the Saatva Classic a good run for its money and if you or your partner weigh over 250lbs, the WinkBed Plus is our number one hotel mattress recommendation for you. The targeted support is also impressive; nothing ruins your sleep, or your vacation, like a sudden bout of back ache. A recent (and notable) price hike has meant the WinkBed is no longer the excellent value it once was for a hotel-style mattress, although $1,799 for a queen is comparable to the Saatva Classic and the Helix Midnight Luxe.

5. Best cooling hotel mattress

The hybrid design pairs breathable springs with copper-infused foams for natural heat wicking but it’s the Celliant cover upgrade that stood out for our testers. Designed to transform excess heat into infrared energy, the Celliant kicks out warmth from chronic overheating, for active cooling even on very hot nights (we used a thermal imaging cam to watch heat drop in real time and it was almost too quick to keep up with.)
Cooling is the stand-out feature and, admittedly, the Bear does suffer slightly in other performance aspects: the Saatva Classic has it beat for both edge support and motion isolation. However, three firmness levels make it a versatile choice and our lead tester noted “[the Bear’s] comfort level punches above all other mattresses I’ve slept on this year”
What we like about it…
✅ Active cooling for very hot sleepers: Without the Celliant cover we predict the Bear Elite has a breathable feel but we recommend adding the Cellaint upgrade for active temperature regulation to beat night sweats and chronic hot sleeping.
✅ Three firmness levels: The Bear Elite Hybrid comes in Soft, Medium or Firm; we tested the Medium and found it dreamy for most side sleepers, but Soft and Firm options mean more sleep styles can enjoy the Bear’s superior cooling.
✅ Responsive cushioning: A quilted top and multiple foam comfort layers ensure the Bear Elite Hybrid has ample cushioning at the touch points but this isn’t a mattress you sink into. Instead, the responsive feel allows you to change position easily as the mattress moves with you to keep you cradled.
What we don’t like about it…
❌ Weaker edge support: The Bear Elite has ‘reinforced edge coils’ but we found sitting on the edge of the bed produced a “hammock” effect (this might be less of an issue on the Firm design.) The Saatva Classic is a similar price and design but the edges are so sturdy you can use the bed as a chair.
❌ Average motion isolation: We think for most couples will be happy sleeping on the Bear Elite but the springs are quite bouncy, resulting in some motion transfer. For a similarly breathable feel with better motion absorption, try the Saatva Classic.

Despite the name our Sleep Lab isn’t the most relaxing place — it’s busy, loud and you’re often being photographed. Still, when I tried side sleeping on the Bear Elite Hybrid for 10 minutes, the rest of the Lab melted away until I nearly drifted off. The cooling is also exceptional, although I recommend upgrading to the Celliant cover. This adds about $100 to the price of a queen but it also enhances the active cooling for more comfortable sleep year-round. If you can catch a 40% off sale (the biggest discount I’ve ever spotted at Bear), it’s easy to justify the upgrade.

6. Best soft hotel mattress

The Nectar Premier Memory Foam Mattress might not look as luxurious as beds like the Saatva Classic or DreamCloud, but its dense foam ‘hug’ delivers a luxury feel and at $949 for a queen, it’s one of the most affordable hotel-style mattresses.
However, while the Nectar Premier is in many ways a traditional foam bed, it avoids many foam pitfalls. It doesn’t trap heat (although we recommend upgrading to the Bear Elite if you’re a hot sleeper) and while the edge support can’t compare to the Saatva Classic, it’s pretty sturdy at the sides. And the motion isolation is superb. We doubt bed sharers will feel much movement on the Premier.
What we like about it…
✅ Perfect for side sleepers: Side sleepers need plenty of cushioning at the hips and shoulders, something the Nectar Premier Memory Foam mattress delivers in spades.
✅ A traditional memory foam feel: This is a memory foam mattress that feels like a memory foam mattress, all at a mid-range price. While it’s not as versatile as the Contour5, it delivers similar luxury body-cradling for less.
✅ Eats up motion: The dense foams of the Nectar Premier absorb nearly all movement. For bed sharers, that means your partner can toss and turn without disrupting your beauty rest.
What we don’t like about it…
❌ Not suitable for all sleep styles: The Nectar Premier is best for side sleepers but too soft for most back or stomach sleepers. And unlike the pricier Contour5, it only comes in one firmness level.
❌ Does trap some heat: Overall the Nectar Premier impressed in our temperature control tests (particularly for an all-foam mattress with minimal cooling features) but hot sleepers are better off opting for a hybrid. The Bear Elite is the best choice but the DreamCloud sleeps cooler than the Premier for less.

I spent a month sleeping on the Nectar Premier and it nearly turned me, a dedicated stomach sleeper, into a side sleeper. The cushioned foams yield easily to the body and the slow movement means you feel delightfully cradled in a foam hug. At $949 for a queen in the standard Nectar mattress sale the Premier is among the most affordable beds in this guide and for side sleepers, I think it’s excellent value. However, it’s not particularly versatile. I was comfortable sleeping on my back but some members of the team would have preferred firmer support. It’s simply too soft for stomach sleeping.

7. Best hotel mattress for side sleepers

With a plush pillow-top and supportive base, the Helix Midnight Luxe is the best mattress for side sleepers we’ve tested. It contours to the body to relieve pressure where you press against the bed but the spring base (with enhanced lumbar support) keeps the spine lifted. We found it comfortable from the first night for side and back sleepers, and the quilted top is an inviting sleep surface.
The motion isolation also impressed our lead tester, who could share the bed with their partner, kids, and cats without being bounced all over the place (although the Contour5 is better if you’re often woken up by movement.) And it sleeps cool… as long as you pay for the GlacioTex upgrade. The Bear Elite Hybrid is a better cooling choice overall.
We found the edge support average and although that’s not unusual for a pillow-top (you tend to sink through the foams), the Saatva Classic is significantly stronger at the perimeter. But if you’re a side sleeper, this luxury mattress has quite literally been designed for you.
What we like about it…
✅ Ideal for side sleepers: Side sleepers will find their body perfectly cushioned on the Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress, with a sturdy coil base providing ample support to the spine without sacrificing contouring.
✅ Exceptional pressure relief: The quilted pillow-top contours to the body at the shoulders, hips and knees to relieve pressure where side sleepers press into the mattress. Our lead tester was used to waking up with hip pain after sleeping on her side, but that wasn’t an issue with the Midnight Luxe.
✅ Enhanced lumbar support: Side sleeper mattresses sometimes prioritize cushioning over support, but the Helix Midnight Luxe does both. There’s also an option to add a layer of ergonomic foam for additional lower back relief.
What we don’t like about it…
❌ Not suitable for stomach sleepers: The Helix Midnight Luxe isn’t quite the all-rounder of the Saatva Classic at number one. ❌ GlacioTex cover is slippery: The GlacioTex cover upgrade does increase the cooling of the mattress, but the slippery feel can result in your sheets sliding around. Without the upgrade, the Midnight Luxe sleeps warm. The Bear Elite or Saatva Classic are cooler mattresses that suit side sleepers.

Helix specializes in beds for certain sleep styles and the Midnight Luxe is everything we look for in a side sleeper mattress, with a feel and finish worthy of the best hotel rooms. It’s also good for back sleepers but if you’re a stomach sleeper I recommend something firmer, such as the DreamCloud or the Helix Dusk Luxe (the front sleeper equivalent of this mattress.) You’ll often pay around $1,850 for a queen but look out for Helix mattress sales to bring that price down — 25% off tends to pop up around the major holidays.

How we test hotel mattresses
The Digitpatrox mattress review process is editorially independent and not influenced by third parties. Every mattress in this guide has been slept on by a member of our review team and deliver a hotel-like comfort to earn a place in this guide.
Using at-home testing and our Sleep Lab to compile subjective and objective data, our rigorous testing process grants us a well-rounded picture of each mattress, so we can understand where it performs… and where it falls behind.
Alongside a lead tester, who will sleep on the mattress for at least three weeks to break it in, a wider testing panel consisting of people with different body types and sleep needs try out each mattress and offer their feedback. Comfort is subjective but this wider testing panel allows us to reach a consensus on who the mattress will appeal to. Hotel mattresses, which need to suit a wide range of guests, are expected to perform well in this area.

In addition, we use 10kg and 25kg weights to collect objective data on pressure relief. How far does the weight sink and how quickly do the materials bounce back once the weight is removed?
We conduct further tests to explore mattress performance in several key areas. Motion isolation, which refers to how well a mattress can absorb and deaden disruptive movement, is measured using a slam ball and an accelerometer. Our testers also buddy up and cycle through a series of different force movement on the mattress, like tossing and turning, providing feedback on how much each motion disturbed them.
We bring the weights back out for our edge support test, placing a 25kg weight three inches from edge of each mattress. Measuring the sink and response time — plus how easy it is to balance the weight — shows us how comfortably you can sit or lie on the edge of the mattress.

Good temperature regulation is often a necessity of the best hotel mattresses (especially for your tropical vacation) and our thermal imaging cam helps us understand how much warmth a mattress absorbs and then how quickly heat is dissipated.
Finally, we expect hotel mattresses to be durable — they have to withstand numerous guests and frequent cleaning. To better understand durability, we combine our own testing with user reviews: how long has the mattress lasted in the homes of real people.
All our objective performance tests are supported by subjective hands-on testing. We then combine our subjective and objective data to come up with a score of 5 in each area. The big names in luxury hotel comfort (Westin, Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton etc.) typically use their own, specially designed mattresses. Other hotels use beds from established sleep brands — Serta and Beautyrest both have guest services stores, while you can find WinkBed and Saatva mattresses in several hotels across the country.
For the most part, the mattresses used in hotels follow similar design conventions: a spring base topped with a plush quilted comfort layer, sometimes finished with a detachable featherbed topper (and then plenty of sheets and pillows.)
That’s not to say all hotels will use this exact design but innerspring base plus quilted top is a reliable blueprint for a hotel mattress, due to its combination of support, cushioning and air flow.

Why are hotel mattresses so comfortable?
If the best night’s sleep of your life came courtesy of a hotel, it’s for good reason: hotels and resort have dedicated a lot of time and money to creating the perfect sleep environment. The mattress is a crucial part of that.
Hotel mattresses achieve this high level of comfort through a crowd-pleasing blend of support and cushioning. A strong and stable base ensures most bodies are supported in every sleep position, while thick upper comfort layers (often in the form of a pillow-top) relieve pressure at the touch points.
Hotel mattresses also have to be durable (to withstand frequent use) and easy to clean (ditto.) To achieve this, a solid overall build quality is essential. This has the side effect of increased comfort and support, as the materials used have to be among the best available.
