Thiruveer’s latest film, ‘The Great Pre-Wedding Show’, is now out in theatres. Rahul Srinivas is the director. Let’s see how it is.
Story:
Ramesh (Thiruveer), along with his friend Ram Charan (Master Rohan Roy), runs a photo studio and xerox shop. Ramesh develops feelings for Hema (Teena Sravya), who works at the Panchayat office located right opposite his shop. One day, Anand (Narendra Ravi), a politically affiliated person, approaches Ramesh to film his pre-wedding photoshoot. The shoot goes smoothly, with a significant amount invested in it, but the memory card containing the footage gets lost due to Ram Charan’s negligence. The rest of the film showcases Ramesh’s efforts to recover the lost chip and the crazy events that unfold thereafter.
Plus Points:
Lately, some films have been relying on social media meme references to generate comedy. However, this approach has a limited appeal since there will be viewers who might not be aware of or familiar with trending dialogues or memes. The Great Pre-Wedding Show is poles apart from such flicks, and it works in the film’s favor big time.
The Story itself offers immense scope for entertainment, and hence, the humor flows organically. Separate comedy tracks unrelated to the plot give a forced feeling, but when the fun is derived from the Story, the film becomes more captivating and enjoyable, and this is precisely what The Great Pre-Wedding Show delivers.
The small-town setup, simple and innocent characters, the key incident leading to chaos, healthy and situational comedy, and the hero’s efforts to save his studio business bring a pleasant smile to the faces. At first, we might feel that the protagonist’s actions are questionable, but in the second half, there is a beautiful redemption.
The comedy works quite well in the second half, but more than the fun portions, the heartfelt emotions spring a pleasant surprise. The lovely explanation about the essence of a pre-wedding photoshoot in relation to the proceedings strikes a chord. Thiruveer did a good job as the photographer, and the way he exhibits frustration with Master Rohan is very entertaining.
Rohan is adorable, and one can’t help but love his cute portrayal. Narendra Ravi, who played the bridegroom, is very impressive and stands out as one of the biggest assets. Teena Sravya and Yamini Nageswar played their parts well.
Minus Points:
The film could have gone to the next level had the romantic angle between the lead pair been explored more. The beginning portions promised a heartwarming love tale, but this aspect feels underutilized despite the potential it carried.
There are some genuinely beautiful moments between the hero and the leading lady, but the film leaves us wanting more. The climax could have been more impactful, and in some places, the narrative becomes a bit predictable.
Technical Aspects:
Suresh Bobbili’s pleasant background score adds value to the light-hearted proceedings, and Soma Sekhar’s cinematography neatly captures the small-town ambience. The editing and production values are impressive. The pacing never dips.
Rahul Srinivas is both the writer and director of The Great Pre-Wedding Show, and he did a fair job. He ensured that entertainment flowed for the most part and handled the subject sensibly. As stated earlier, the effort to create situational humor without relying on meme references is appreciable. The lead pair’s track is the major shortcoming, despite flashes of cuteness.
Verdict:
On the whole, The Great Pre-Wedding Show deals with a contemporary theme in a simple manner, banking on situational and healthy humor. The small-town setup, innocent characters, organic comedy, and performances serve as the film’s trump cards. The movie could have made a lasting impact, but the lack of depth in the lead pair’s love track and some predictable moments prevent it from becoming a truly memorable outing. Nonetheless, it’s a harmless watch for those interested in feel-good entertainers.
