Will There Be The Last Of Us Season 3? Here’s the Happy News

The Last of Us Season 2 has finally reached its conclusion, and while fans are slightly disappointed with how short the run of this season was, despite being just seven episodes long, The Last of Us Season 2 managed to cover all the points of the story it was meant to. Now, considering that this season ended with a massive cliffhanger, fans are concerned if we will get to see what happens next in the story anytime soon, so without further ado, let’s find out if there will be a The Last of Us Season 3.

Are We Getting The Last of Us Season 3?

To the relief of fans worldwide, Yes, The Last of Us will return with a Season 3. The show was renewed on April 9, 2025, even before the release of season 2. Looking at how things ended in The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 7, it is quite obvious that Season 3 will bring us Abbie’s POV quite similarly to the original game.

Craig Mazin,co-creator, showrunner, and co-writer of the show, also talked about The Last of Us Season 3 and told Deadline back in 2024 that the upcoming season will be significantly bigger and will also cover a lot of ground for the story. However, there is a good chance that it might also require a season 4. He said-

“We feel like it’s almost assuredly going to be the case that – as long as people keep watching and we can keep making more television – Season 3 will be significantly larger. And indeed, the story may require Season 4”

 Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President, HBO Programming, Head of HBO Drama Series and Films, also opened up regarding how he feels about The Last of Us’ live action adaptation and in a statement, said that he is incredibly proud of what they have achieved and looks forward to the release of the third season. He stated-

“It can’t be overemphasized how proud HBO is for the outstanding achievement we believe the second season of THE LAST OF US is. Craig, Neil, Carolyn and the entire executive producer team, cast and crew have delivered a masterful follow-up and we’re thrilled to carry the power of Craig and Neil’s storytelling into what we know will be an equally moving and extraordinary third season.”

What Is the Release Date of The Last of Us Season 3?

Even though a third season is officially confirmed, we do not have a release date for The Last of Us Season 3 as of now. However, since we know that Season 2 started filming in February 2024 and wrapped up in August before its release in 2025, we can assume that The Last of Us Season 3 might start filming in early 2026 and get a release date sometime in 2027.
