Hyderabad: Yashoda Hospitals, Hitec City, announced that it has completed 300+ kidney transplants in just 36 months.
To commemorate this achievement, the Department of Renal Sciences, Centre of Excellence, hosted a ‘Felicitation Program – Honouring the Hands Behind Kidney Transplant’ on Monday and Governor Jishnu Dev Varma was the chief guest.
Kidney care champions
The event, titled ‘Kidney Care Champions: 300 & Beyond,’ featured inspiring patient stories, success testimonials and acknowledgements of the dedicated multidisciplinary teams who have made this milestone possible.
Excellence in kidney transplantation
According to a public note from the hospital, over the years, Yashoda Hospitals has become one of India’s leading centres for kidney transplantation, achieving over 3,500+ successful kidney transplants across its units.
The Hitec City unit alone has accomplished 300+ transplants in just 36 months, reaffirming its expertise, world-class infrastructure, and leadership in Renal Sciences.
This milestone also coincides with the recognition of Yashoda Hospitals’ Hitec City as a Centre of Excellence in RRT in ICU (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy) by an international body CRRT Inc., reaffirming its position as a global leader in critical care nephrology.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr GS Rao, MD of Yashoda Hospitals, said, “We are thrilled to celebrate this momentous milestone of 300+ kidney transplants at Yashoda Hospitals, Hitec City in just 36 Months. Our multidisciplinary team, comprising nephrologists, transplant surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff, has worked relentlessly with utmost dedication to ensure optimal outcomes for every patient. Each transplant is not just a medical success, but a story of renewed hope and life. We remain steadfast in our mission to make world-class kidney transplant care accessible to all and to continue pushing boundaries in the field of organ transplantation.”
Dr Rajasekara Chakravarthi, Clinical Director and Head of Nephrology, Yashoda Hospitals, Hitec City, said, “Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) has become a silent global health crisis. In India alone, it is estimated that 1 in 10 adults suffers from some form of kidney disease, and over 2 lakh people develop end-stage kidney failure every year, requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant for survival. Unfortunately, only a small percentage of patients receive transplants due toa lack of awareness, late diagnosis, and donor shortages.”
“Common causes include diabetes, hypertension, chronic infections, and lifestyle-related factors such as obesity, smoking and excessive use of painkillers. Yashoda Hospitals continues to emphasise early screening, preventive nephrology, and community education to reduce the growing burden of kidney disease in India and beyond,” said Dr Rajasekara.
Highlights of the 300 kidney transplants:
Recipient Profile: 225 male and 75 female recipients
Donor Profile: 121 male and 179 female donors
33 ABO-incompatible kidney transplants were successfully performed
57 transplants from elderly donors (aged 60–83 years)

16 cadaver transplants, reflecting Yashoda’s advocacy for organ donation
This achievement is a result of collaboration among a highly skilled and experienced team of nephrologists, urologists, anesthesiologists, transplant coordinators, and nursing staff dedicated to delivering exceptional outcomes, the hospital said.
