Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Finale: Ending Explained

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has finally concluded its first season and even though, I expected it to be pretty straightforward, the show hit me with a rather unexpected turn of events. The show ended with some revelations that told us just how grand the plot of this animated show is and how far this will go in the next season. So, with that being said, let’s take a look towards the end of the Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man finale.

In the final battle sequence of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, we see that Doctor Strange and Peter team up to take down what seems to be a version of Venom. Doctor Strange holds Venom back while Peter repairs the portal from which the beast emerged. When it becomes uncontrollable, Doctor Strange uses the Eye of Agamotto and accidentally takes it to the first episode where Peter got his powers.

It is also revealed that this is the incident in the future because of which Peter got bit by the spider, which granted him his powers. Forward a few minutes, Doctor Strange holds the huge alien symbiote back as Peter tries to throw the variant of Venom into the portal to seal it. Both the heroes succeed in doing so but before the portal could close, a piece of the symbiote makes it through the portal and is later discovered by Norman Osborn.

There is a possibility that the Symbiote will fuse with Norman and bring us the possible big bad of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Venom. It is not possible as of now to say exactly who will turn into Venom so let’s wait and see what happens.

Lonnie Has Finally Embraced Being Tombstone

In the second last episode of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, we see that Lonnie and his gang attack the truck carrying Doctor Octavious’ weapons so that they can take a stand against The Scorpion. However, they are interrupted by Spider-Man as well as Scorpion. While fighting the villain, Lonnie tries to find a weapon inside the truck to use against the villain and accidentally breaks the vial of a chemical named Diox-3.

In Marvel Comics, this was the chemical that enhanced Tombstone’s powers to the next level rendering him almost indestructible. However, in the animated series, this is where Lonnie receives his powers and helps Spider-Man fight Scorpion. In the final sequence of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, we see that Lonnie’s skin is turning pale gradually reinforcing his transformation into the Marvel villain. Moreover, he throws away his football team’s jacket further confirming that in season 2, Lonnie might appear as a villain against Spider-Man.

Nico Has Revealed Her Powers

Nico Minoru has been a part of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man since the first episode and is a close friend of Peter. However, in Marvel comics, Nico is a superhero named Sister Grimm who uses dark magic. To make it easy to understand, if Doctor Strange is the Master of Mystic Arts, Nico is somewhat of a Master of the Dark Arts.

For quite some time, there was no reference to this side of her which almost made me think that this Nico is a completely different character from the one we have seen in Marvel comics. However, in episode 8 of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, we see that while Nico was racing in Harry’s car, her necklace started glowing showing us that she indeed has powers.

As the ending of the final episode of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man approached, we saw her performing dark magic with her necklace and contacting her mom. In Marvel comics, Nico did not share a good relationship with her mom but because of her, she got her powers. However, in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, it seems that she is the source of Nico’s powers. There is a possibility that in Season 2, Nico might appear as Sister Grimm.

Green Goblin Might Appear in the Future

The Green Goblin has been a menace to Spidey since the character made his first appearance. In Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, it looks as if Norman Osborn is a good guy, and the chances of the Goblin appearing in the show look to be slim. However, in the episode where Spider-Man fights the Scorpion for the first time and is almost killed, he is saved by a glider that looks exactly like that of the Green Goblin.

Not only that, by the ending of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’s second last episode, we see that Norman Osborn is not only trying to replicate Spider-Man’s powers but is also actively working on the previously seen glider. In the final episode, it was pretty much confirmed that Norman Osborn is not that great of a guy, and now that his image is tainted and Oscorp is in danger of going up in flames, there is a solid chance that we will get to see the Green Goblin in season 2.

Finesse and Daredevil Confirmed to Appear in Season 2

Just as the final episode of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is about to end, we see that Jeanne, one of the interns working alongside Peter at Oscorp, is talking to Daredevil. It is at this point we get to know that Jeanne is a vigilante named Finesse who is working with Daredevil against Oscorp.

In Marvel comics, Finesse is the daughter of Taskmaster and has the same powers of mirroring the fighting style of her opponents. Not only that, she also has a genius-level intellect that allowed her to graduate from MIT at the age of 14. Now since Finesse is working with Daredevil, there is a solid chance that both of them will appear as a team in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2.

With the way Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man treated its ending, the story has too many loose ends that will be tied up in the future with an already confirmed Season 2 and until it is released, stay tuned with us for more updates!
