For nearly two decades, Fox has produced X-Men movies that created a new generation of fans (and some that missed the mark). Professor X, Magneto and Wolverine were the primary stars of movies such as X2: X-Men United, X-Men: First Class and Days of Future Past. These films also brought countless X-Men to the big screen, in starring and background roles.
However, the pool of X-Men heroes and villains is so large in Marvel Comics, and the X-Men films have still barely scratched the surface. With many iconic X-Men returning in Avengers: Doomsday, fans are curious about what the future X-Men will look like in the MCU moving forward. There are still some staples of the X-Men franchise: heroes, villains and concepts that deserve to appear in whatever form future X-Men movies take.
Armor Is The Star Of The New Ultimate X-Men Comic Series
Hisako Ichiki originally debuted in Astonishing X-Men #4 in 2004, so she’s a relatively new member of the X-Men universe compared to the other staples. However, Armor has used her time in Marvel Comics well.
Armor was a main character of the X-Men anime, and has recently starred as the main character of the new Ultimate X-Men comic series, which takes place in a new Ultimate Universe created by the Maker. Armor has made herself a staple of the X-Men universe, and with the potential reset coming after Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, fans deserve to see her on the big screen. Her powers would look great in live-action.
The Marvel Multiverse Is A Huge Part Of The X-Men Franchise
X-Men comics always take readers to alternate universes or alternate timelines. The closest the X-Men movie franchise has come to this has been in X-Men: Days of Future Past, when the events of the future ironically affected the past when Wolverine’s consciousness traveled back in time.
In X-Men comics, the X-Men are always traveling to new worlds, whether it be the Age of Apocalypse reset, the new timelines created by Moira’s reincarnation, or illusory worlds like the Age of X-Man universe created by Nate Grey. Avengers: Doomsday will undoubtedly collide worlds, but future X-Men movies need to go wild with their timeline changes and alternate universes.
Forge Is One Of The X-Men’s Greatest Scientific Minds
Forge is one of the smartest heroes in Marvel Comics and a true genius in cybernetics. In many ways, Forge could give Beast a run for his money as the smartest member of the X-Men. Forge was a prominent character in X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men ’97, creating devices that helped the X-Men heal their powers or even travel through time.
It’s still amazing that Forge has never appeared in X-Men movies. Alongside Beast, Forge would be an incredible asset, and his intelligence could allow for more outlandish, sci-fi X-Men adventures on the big screen using technology he invented.
The X-Men’s Own Sinister Clone Saga
Mister Sinister is one of the main villains in the X-Men universe, nearly as recognizable as Apocalypse or even Magneto. After the House of X and Powers of X miniseries, Mister Sinister, along with the rest of mutantkind, joined the X-Men on Krakoa.
Mister Sinister is no hero in the X-Men universe, but he is a staple of the X-Men franchise, serving as the main antagonist of the first “Inferno” and the Sins of Sinister event. Sinister is a huge part, but so are his experiments. Yes, there have been clones in the X-Men movies already, namely X-23 in Logan. But cloning is such a huge part of the X-Men comics. The X-Men movies need their own Clone Saga, and all the double-crosses and identity crises that come with it.
Mojo Created The Mojoverse To Torment The X-Men
Mojo is so different from any other X-Men villain. He’s a grotesque, greedy individual who has created virtual realities that he uses in his gladiatorial games. Mojo often traps members of the X-Men in the Mojoverse to torment or torture them.
Longtime X-Men fans have seen a lot of Mojo in Marvel Comics and in animated series like X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men ’97, but he’s never appeared in an X-Men movie. Considering all the outlandish characters Marvel Studios has included in the MCU, Mojo and his digital Mojoverse don’t seem so ridiculous anymore.
The M’kraan Crystal & The Shi’ar Empire Are In A Lot Of X-Men Stories
Marvel fans are likely familiar with the Shi’ar Empire thanks to their many appearances in X-Men comics and X-Men: The Animated Series. The M’kraan Crystal is a huge part of the Shi’ar lore, yet it’s never appeared in an X-Men movie.
It’s also known as the Nexus of All Realities and is one of the most powerful objects in the multiverse. Something that would fit well into the current MCU, which is all about the multiverse. It may even play a role in the Avengers/X-Men crossover in Avengers: Doomsday. The X-Men movie franchise has been largely Earthbound. Future X-Men movies need to send the team to space, and the M’kraan Crystal should be involved somehow.
Rachel Summers Was From The X-Men’s Dark Future
The X-Men universe has all sorts of tropes, like time travel, alternate realities and even supernatural prophecies. One iconic storyline introduced a powerful mutant who was destined to champion mutantkind. Rachel Summers is an incredibly important member of the X-Men, and usually sits at the nexus of the X-Men’s greatest comic events.
Rachel Summers helped send Kate Pryde’s consciousness back in time during “Days of Future Past” before she was stranded in the past herself. Rachel Summers has also hosted the Phoenix Force. With all the mutant struggles against Sentinels, humans and each other, the X-Men movies have never really touched on the concept of one mutant being the hero of prophecy (and the MCU could easily subvert that prophecy to spell doom for the X-Men).
Nimrod Is The Most Powerful Sentinel From The X-Men’s Future
The future Sentinels in X-Men: Days of Future Past were based on Nimrod. Their designs were similar, and their ability to mimic X-Men powers matched those of some Nimrod versions, but fans have never truly seen Nimrod fully adapted for the big screen.
After recent events like House of X and Inferno, fans would love to see Nimrod (and the rest of the Orchis organization) appear in X-Men movies. Nimrod is so much more than a standard Sentinel, or even Master Mold. Nimrod has a sadistic, almost humorous personality that would surely make him an unforgettable MCU villain.
A Professor Xavier Who Isn’t The Hero Of The X-Men
Every X-Men movie that has featured Professor Xavier has made him into a hero. The most dubious thing Xavier ever did in the movies, as seen in X-Men: The Last Stand, Xavier manipulated Jean Grey’s mind to subdue her Phoenix persona.
In Marvel Comics, Xavier is far more sinister, and the Dawn of X era, which kicked off with House of X and Powers of X, presented an Xavier who didn’t pull his punches. Xavier, with the help of Moira and Magneto, created a new era for mutants, establishing the mutant nation of Krakoa and even teaming up with villains like Mister Sinister and Apocalypse. X-Men movies need an Xavier like this, someone who, on the surface, is helping mutants, but will manipulate humanity to do it.
Legion Is Professor Xavier’s Omega-Level Mutant Son
In Marvel Comics, Legion is an incredibly powerful mutant who gains different mutant abilities based on his split personalities. Legion accidentally created the Age of Apocalypse universe when he murdered his father, Charles Xavier, and the character starred in the FX Legion live-action show.
That TV series is a wild, trippy ride, but it perfectly encapsulates Legion’s character and shattered psyche. If Marvel Studios wanted to put Legion on the big screen, they should use the Legion show as a template. Legion can change the fabric of the X-Men universe, and he should definitely appear as a wild card antagonist in a future movie.
