46 lakh women from SHGs in Telangana to undergo 30 diagnostic health tests for Women’s Day

Hyderabad: As many as 46 lakh women belonging to the self-help groups (SHGs) are set to undergo 30 diagnostic tests for their health profiling, starting from March 8.

The program is an International Women’s Day initiative as a part of the 99-day action plan of the Telangana State government.

The action plan, starting from March 6 to June 12, is to screen them for the increasing complaints of metabolic disorders, diabetes and hypertension.

Health minister Damodar Rajanarasimha said that these screening tests will not disrupt the functioning of hospitals and their services.

30 diagnostic tests via T-Diagnostics

Under this initiative, each woman will undergo a battery of 30 different medical tests facilitated by T-Diagnostics. The screening will be rolled out in three phases:

Phase 1: Starting in 5 mandals per district.

Phase 2: Expanding to an additional 10 mandals per district.

Phase 3: Covering all remaining mandals.

The Minister has directed officials to complete the entire screening process for all 46 lakh women within the next six months without disrupting daily hospital services.

What is the 99-day four-phase action plan

The Health Department has outlined a structured four-phase approach to revamp public healthcare delivery in the state:

Phase 1: Maternal & Child Care (March 6 – March 31)

Focus will be on adolescent girls, pregnant women, and the elderly. Activities include:

– Anaemia prevention drives at the field level.

– Health screenings for children in schools and Anganwadis.

– Administrative reforms: Resolving pending files, asset verification, and improving hospital sanitation.

Phase 2: NCD Screening (April 1 – April 15)

This phase targets Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

– Extensive screening camps at sub-centre levels for Hypertension (BP), Diabetes (Sugar), and Cancer.

– Mapping chemotherapy services at District Daycare Cancer Centres.

– Mandatory viral infection testing for all dialysis patients.

Phase 3: Communicable Diseases & Seasonal Preparedness (April 16 – May 15)

With summer intensifying, the focus shifts to:

– TB Mukt Bharat: Identifying and treating Tuberculosis cases.

– Awareness and prevention of heatstroke and seasonal diseases like Dengue and Malaria.

– Ensuring adequate stocks of emergency medicines in all clinics.

Phase 4: Urban Health Expansion (May 16 – June 12)

The final phase focuses on the Greater Hyderabad region (GHMC, Cyberabad, and Medchal):

– Upgrading 145 Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) into polyclinics to offer speciality services.

– Deploying mobile medical vehicles in slum areas (Bastis).

– Conducting Food Safety Melas to educate the public on food adulteration.
