Bollywood actress Adah Sharma has addressed the ongoing discussions surrounding The Kerala Story, which recently bagged two prestigious National Awards. Despite the accolades, the film remains mired in controversy, especially following remarks made by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who reiterated his stand that the film distorts facts and fuels communal disharmony. His statement came after the film’s national recognition, sparking a fresh wave of political and social debate.

Responding to ongoing criticism, Adah Sharma said, “The Kerala Story for me is a film that openly calls out terrorism, terror organisations so of course the ones being called out won’t be happy. Many people who didn’t know me, us, or the film, also very openly spoke up for the film. I’m very thankful to them. They made our film reach the hearts of millions.”

The film, which portrays the alleged conversion and radicalisation of women in Kerala, faced bans in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu upon release—both states citing communal sensitivity. Addressing this, Adah added, “They are all entitled to their opinion. When our film was released it was banned in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. It never got to be released there. People from those states travelled to other states to watch the film.”

While the debate continues, The Kerala Story has managed to cement its place in Indian cinema with both commercial success and national recognition. Directed by Sudipto Sen, The Kerala Story was written by Suryapal Singh, Sudipto Sen, and Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The film starred Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani, and Siddhi Idnani in the lead roles.
