In a major crackdown on digital platforms allegedly promoting vulgar and adult content, the Indian government has banned over 25 OTT apps including ALTBalaji (ALTT), Ullu, Big Shots App, Desiflix, Boomex, NeonX VIP, Navarasa Lite, Gulab App, Kangan App, Bull App, ShowHit, Jalva App, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, Hitprime, Fugi, Feneo, ShowX, Sol Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Hulchul App, MoodX, Triflicks, and Mojflix.

These platforms have been accused of pushing obscene content under the guise of web series, contributing to a negative cultural impact and violating digital content guidelines.
Gehana Vasisth, known for her work in web series produced by Ullu and ALTBalaji, has reacted strongly to the ban. While she expressed support for the government’s move against illegal and pornographic content, she also raised concerns about established platforms like ALTBalaji and Ullu being clubbed with others.
“I fully support the government because there were some apps who were promoting nudity and porn. The action was necessary, but just because of those illegal apps, genuine content apps like ALT and Ullu have also been banned. ALTBalaji and Ullu have a different content and people watch their content regularly. They don’t promote nudity. I’m sure they will be back 100% because they have that power in their content and a strong fan base too,” she said.
Gehena further revealed that certain individuals have been running their own explicit channels while posing as actors. She added, “Government should have banned them, not genuine channels.”
“I know some girls — I won’t take names — who have been selling porn right from the beginning,” Gehena alleged. “They run their own private channels filled with nude videos and full-fledged pornographic content, and yet they proudly call themselves ‘actresses.’ If the government really wants to clean up the system, they should start by taking action against such individuals instead of banning genuine platforms that offer Story-driven content.”

She also pointed out the hypocrisy, saying if ALT and Ullu are being banned, then all platforms and even paparazzi videos showing actresses in revealing outfits should be scrutinized.
