Apple iPhone 16 Lineup Review

Apple’s latest iPhone 16 models hit store shelves today, which of course begs the question—are they worth the upgrade?

While Apple is touting some camera improvements, a built-for-AI processor, and all-new Camera Control button, it’s hard to see these changes as anything but incremental improvements to what were already top-of-the-line devices.

As a refresher: Apple has released its standard 6.1-inch iPhone 16 and larger 6.7-inch iPhone 16 Plus, as well as the premium 6.3-inch iPhone 16 Pro and 6.9-inch iPhone 16 Pro Max. The four devices start at $799, $899, $999, and $1,199, respectively.

I borrowed a couple iPhone 16 models—the iPhone 16 Plus and iPhone 16 Pro—and took them for a brief spin, while our lab testing gets underway. Consumer Reports is purchasing the full iPhone 16 lineup, at retail, for rigorous testing in our labs, on metrics like battery life, durability, and performance. Those full results and our official ratings will be available for CR members soon.
