Bottom-freezers—as well as top-freezers—typically take up less space than other configurations. Bottom-freezers start at 24 inches wide and go up to 33 inches, making them more suitable for a tighter space.
Our most recent surveys of CR members found that bottom-freezers tend to offer better reliability than French-door models, too. For example, LG French-doors receive middling reliability ratings, while LG bottom-freezers have exemplary scores. (See which brands make the most and least reliable refrigerators.)
That said, bottom-freezer refrigerators tend to have fewer features than French-door refrigerators—water dispensers, for instance, are rare—though most of them come with an icemaker.
Below, CR members will find ratings and reviews of the best bottom-freezer refrigerators from our tests. Our fridge recommendations are organized by width and include models from Amana, Beko, GE, LG, Miele, MORA, and Whirlpool in 30-inch and 33-inch widths, plus two narrower options for people with smaller kitchens.
