Even though you can play it solo, Elden Ring Nightreign is built for three-player co-op. The solo play experience, at the time of writing, is not great. Leveling up solo feels like a chore, taking on bosses becomes extremely risky, and getting knocked down against night bosses and Night Lords becomes common. But despite all the issues with solo play on Nightreign, you can still defeat the Night Lords. However, it is easier to do on certain characters than others. Here is a complete guide on the best character classes in Elden Ring for solo-play based on my experience of the game so far.
1. Raider
Raider is the best character for solo play as he has a massive HP pool and very high damage output from the get-go. You can survive most attacks on Raider using his character Skill, and his big max health makes it easier to take tank damage against Nightlords.
Raider is also one of the best characters to stagger enemies, so it becomes fairly easy to take out large bosses and small enemies alike with him. Raider’s Ultimate is also great for blocking large AoE attacks, creating a pillar that you can kite around to safety.
2. Guardian
Guardian is also an excellent character to play solo in Elden Ring Nightreign. He has a big max HP, and his character is built around blocking, making him perfect for tanking boss attacks.
His character skill is perfect for staggering regular enemies, while his Ultimate does the same to every boss in the game. By combining perfectly timed blocks with guard counters, you can bring any enemy to their knees.
3. Iron Eye
Iron Eye is the safest choice for a solo character in Nightreign. As he uses a bow as his main weapon, it lets him deal constant damage while staying at a distance. Iron Eye’s character skill applies a weakness point to enemies, which further amplifies his damage against them.
However, Iron Eye can appear useless against enemies with shields, so remember to pick your fights correctly with him. Also, melee bosses can close Iron Eye down, giving him little space to attack. When this happens, you can use his Ultimate to stun the enemy or create distance with your character skill.
4. Wylder
Wylder is not only the poster boy for Elden Ring Nightreign, he is a jack of all trades in Elden Ring. He has good movement, decent HP, and excellent damage. Wylder can use both melee and ranged weapons. His Ultimate stuns enemies and packs a big punch of damage.
Wylder is likely the most versatile character to play solo in Elden Ring Nightreign. However, to get the best out of Wylder, you must master his hook and character skills, which can take some time.
Why Other Characters Are Bad for Solo-Play in Nightreign
I have mentioned four characters out of eight for solo-play. So, you are likely wondering what makes the other characters bad. Now, before I explain my reasons, I need to clarify that all the characters in Elden Ring Nightreign can be used to solo-clear expeditions.
However, based on my experience with the game, some of them have a much harder time than others. Here is a quick overview of the other characters that I feel don’t work in solo play.
- Duchess: She is one of the best characters in the game, with high damage, double dodges, and an Ultimate that makes her invisible. On paper, she should be the perfect pick for solo play. However, her Max HP is very small and staggers easily. This makes her weak against a large group of enemies.
- Executor: He is another hybrid class like Wylder, being adept at tanking and dealing damage. However, Executor starts with the smallest HP bar in the game, and his ability to tank attacks is based on his deflect ability, which has a very high skill ceiling and can be nerve-racking. Those who are not good at judging enemy attacks and deflecting will constantly find themselves dead with the Executor.
- Recluse: She is a backliner mage, and best for dealing damage when enemies are not aggroed on her. So, playing solo makes her always the target, and it can become tough to cast spells constantly with her. However, if you find a good Intelligence scaling weapon for her, she can hold her own solo as well.
- Revenant: This is the only character in the game that is never truly solo. As Revenant can summon, she appears to be a good pick for solo play. However, it can become extremely hard to deal damage with Revenant, unless you get lucky and land on a good damage incantation. Even then, you will need a good source of restoring your FP if you want to take on the bosses with her.
So, these are the best characters for playing Elden Ring Nightreign solo. Don’t let this list hold you back from trying out your favorite characters in the solo mode. Take it more as a reference for the strengths and weaknesses of each character that you will encounter while playing solo.
