Despite their popularity, French-door refrigerators as a group are not very reliable. Except for the high-end brand Fisher & Paykel, most French-door brands received a middling or worse score for predicted reliability in our latest member survey. Those results also reveal that Kenmore and LG French-doors are more prone to having compressors that break or are faulty than competing brands. Despite these issues, you will see many LG French-doors at the top of our ratings, and our members still report them to be more reliable than many other brands in our survey.
If reliability is your top priority, you’ll want to consider a top-freezer or bottom-freezer instead. But if you’re after the French-door style and feature set, plenty of options offer good day-to-day performance. Below, we review the top French-door refrigerators in three standard widths. CR members can read ratings and reviews of each model.
