And we explored pricing: how much our members paid for their mattresses, how happy they were with the price, and whether they haggled—a common practice for in-store shopping but much less common with mattresses purchased online.
Based on our survey responses, members found that buying a mattress, whether online or in a store, was a satisfying experience overall. Among the CR members surveyed, 37 percent made their purchase online, a drop from 45 percent in 2020 to 2021.
In this article, we highlight some of the best-rated mattress retailers. In addition to survey details about the store, we’ve included information on a top-performing mattress from our ratings sold there. (If you’d like to try these models in a store, see our mattress buying guide for advice on how to assess a mattress.)
CR members can read about the retailers in our comprehensive mattress store ratings. They can also learn about additional mattresses offered by these sellers in our comprehensive mattress ratings, which include more than 270 models.
