On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, the Bombay High Court granted a major relief to actor Rhea Chakraborty, directing the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to return her passport.
This order comes in the context of a 2020 drugs‐related investigation linked to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Rhea was arrested in September 2020 and granted bail in October of that year. As one of her bail conditions, she was required to deposit her passport with the NCB and secure court permission for any international travel.

In her plea, Rhea’s lawyers argued that the restriction caused her to lose professional opportunities. They pointed out she had always followed court orders and never violated the bail conditions. The NCB opposed the request, warning that granting such relief to a celebrity might pose a flight risk.

However, the High Court, led by Justice Neela Gokhale, accepted Rhea’s arguments. The court observed that she had reliably appeared at all hearings and, during prior approved foreign trips, had returned on time. The bench said there was “no reason to doubt her availability” for continuing proceedings.

While ordering the return of her passport, the court imposed conditions:
• She must furnish her full travel itinerary — including flight and hotel details — at least four days before departure.
• She must provide her mobile number, keep her phone switched on, and inform authorities upon her return.
• She must appear for all court dates unless the trial court excuses her.
According to reports, the NCB has been instructed to return the passport within seven days. This decision marks a notable step in Rhea Chakraborty’s legal journey, potentially freeing her from prior travel constraints while ensuring she remains accountable to the court and prosecution’s oversight.
