Consumer Reports had previously tested and reviewed the Bugaboo Giraffe high chair, though we didn’t encounter any issue with the chair disconnecting from the base during our testing. CR’s engineers were able to request a repair kit from Bugaboo and install it in the model we used during testing.
“The new screws and Allen key are likely to help prevent unintentional loosening, but we aren’t able to say how much more effective they are,” says Joan Muratore, the engineer who leads CR’s high chairs testing. “If you own this high chair, you’ll still need to be vigilant about checking the screws regularly, as outlined in the repair kit instructions: two weeks after installing the repair kit, and then every six months afterward.”
The Giraffe high chairs were sold for $380 at Nordstrom and other specialty stores across the U.S., as well as online at Bugaboo and Amazon from May 2023 through April 2025, the CPSC said.
No refund is being offered at this time. “It’s unacceptable that Bugaboo is not offering a refund to consumers who want one,” says Gabe Knight, senior policy analyst at Consumer Reports. “Babies have been injured falling from this high chair, and parents may not feel comfortable using it anymore. We applaud the CPSC for recalling this product and alerting consumers to the potential safety risks, but Bugaboo should let caretakers decide whether they want the free repair kit, or their money back.”
