Build 22635.5240 for Windows 11 gets a new clock with seconds in the Notification Center (Beta)

Microsoft is testing a new clock feature for the notification center on Windows 11, similar to the feature available on Windows 10. The new feature appears hidden with the release of build 22635.5240 (KB5055645) in the Beta Channel for version 23H2.

Computers enrolled in the Beta Channel are now getting the Windows 11 build 22635.5240 as a minor update that only includes general improvements and fixes for the “Organize” and “New Folder” options that might not be visible in the “Save” dialog when using dark mode in File Explorer.

In addition, this release fixes two issues, including one that doesn’t display the total storage correctly in the Settings app, and another that causes Voice Access to freeze with the error “working on it” when dictating.

Also, it has been discovered (via @PhantomOfEarth) that Windows 11 may soon get a clock element in the notification center that also displays seconds.

If this feature looks familiar, it is because Windows 10 has it too, in the same location. However, the version for Windows 11 even includes a “Show time in Notification Center” toggle switch to turn the feature on or off on Settings > Time & language > Date & time.

You can enable the feature manually with the ViveTool running the vivetool /enable /id:42651849,48433719 command.

In addition, the company recently rolled out Windows 11 build 22635.5235 (KB5055615) in the Beta Channel as a minor update, featuring general improvements, tweaks to some File Explorer elements, and fixes for the Settings app.

Installation process

To download and install this Windows 11 build, enroll your device in the Beta Channels through the “Windows Insider Program” settings from the “Update & Security” section. Once you enroll the computer in the program, you can download the build from the “Windows Update” settings by clicking the “Check for Updates” button, but do not turn on the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option.
