Build 27818 for Windows 11 rolls out improvements in Canary Channel

Microsoft is now rolling out Windows 11 build 27818 in the Canary Channel of the Windows Insider Program. This is a minor update with some fixes and changes, more specifically for Windows Security, File Explorer, Taskbar, Settings, Graphics, Admin Protection, and more.

According to the official changes, Windows 11 build 27818 rolls out an updated version of the Windows Security app that will now show more information about the security in the processor, such as the manufacturer and the version of the Pluton TPM chip.

Microsoft is also deprecating the “suggestions actions” feature on Windows 11.

As for the fixes, this preview in the Canary Channel addresses problems with File Explorer, Taskbar, Settings, and more:

  • File Explorer: Improved zipped file extraction performance, especially for numerous small files, and fixed an issue with File Explorer Home displaying incorrect “Name” text.
  • Taskbar: Corrected taskbar app window preview corner radius and resolved stuck underlines under closed app icons.
  • Input: Addressed a high-frequency ctmon.exe crash impacting typing.
  • Settings: Fixed a launch failure error related to memory access and RuntimeBroker.exeand corrected the Japanese name display order.
  • Graphics: Resolved sluggish video issues with multiple monitors after changing display modes, fixed Settings > System > Display > Graphics crashes, and addressed game launch failures related to DirectX and StorePipeline.
  • Admin Protection: Enabled Visual Studio Code installation when Admin Protection is active.
  • Remote Desktop: Fixed a Remote Desktop freezing issue during connection.
  • Other: Resolved an issue causing certain apps to fail to open due to a missing virtual machine component and a d3d9.dll crash affecting app launches

Installation process

To download and install this Windows 11 build, enroll your device in the Canary Channel through the “Windows Insider Program” settings from the “Update & Security” section.
