Data breach at Las Vegas real estate developer leaks SSNs, medical info

Las Vegas real estate developer The Siegel Group this week confirmed it notified an undisclosed number of people about a January 2025 data breach that compromised the following personal info:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Dates of birth
  • Passport numbers
  • State-issued ID cards
  • Alien registration numbers
  • Direct deposit account numbers
  • Signatures
  • Medical info

Ransomware gang Interlock claimed responsibility for the breach the following month, saying it stole more than 11 terabytes of “SQL databases, personal data of all employees and much more.” To prove its claim, the group posted a sample of documents that it claims to have stolen from The Siegel Group.

The Siegel Group has not verified Interlock’s claim. We do not know how many people the company notified, if it paid a ransom, how much Interlock demanded, or how attackers breached The Siegel Group’s network network. Comparitech contacted The Siegel Group for comment and will update this article if it replies.

“The investigation found that an unauthorized actor viewed and/or copied certain files stored within our network between January 28, 2025, and February 2, 2025,” says The Siegel Group’s notice to victims.

The Siegel Group is offering eligible victims free credit monitoring through Experian. The deadline to enroll is June 30, 2025.

Who is Interlock?

Interlock is a new ransomware gang that first started adding targets to its leak site in October 2024. Interlock steals data and locks down computer systems, forcing targets to pay both to unlock their systems and to not sell or release private data.

Interlock has claimed responsibility for 10 confirmed ransomware attacks in total, plus 11 unconfirmed claims that haven’t been acknowledged by the targeted organizations.

The attack on The Siegel Group is Interlock’s third confirmed attack in 2025. The other two hit the Aztech Municipal School District and National Defense Corporation.

Ransomware attacks in the USA

Ransomware attacks force companies to either pay a ransom to their attackers or face extended downtime, data loss, and putting data subjects at increased risk of fraud.

Comparitech researchers have logged 53 confirmed ransomware attacks on US organizations in 2025 so far. Ransomware gangs made another 1,110 attack claims that we have yet to confirm.

In another recent attack on a casino operator, ransomware gang RansomHub claimed responsibility for a data breach at Jackpot Junction Casino Hotel in Minnesota.
