Delhi HC Supports Sameer Wankhede In The Bads of Bollywood Case:
The Delhi High Court has strongly criticised Red Chillies Entertainment and Netflix’s web series The Bads of Bollywood for what it called a biased portrayal of former NCB official Sameer Wankhede, even as the makers insist it is purely satirical. The court acknowledged the show’s satirical nature but suggested it goes beyond mere mockery.

Wankhede has filed a defamation suit seeking ₹2 crore, which he plans to donate to Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital. He claimed the show makes him a subject of ridicule, damages his reputation, and undermines public trust in anti-drug agencies. One scene that particularly troubles him: a character who looks like him, after saying “Satyamev Jayate,” makes an obscene gesture. Wankhede argues this violates the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.
Red Chillies, through senior counsel, defended the show as “situational satire.” The company said Wankhede was already under public scrutiny — including from a prior FIR — and the series does not expressly name him. They added that removing the objectionable clip would hurt the narrative flow, warning against limiting artistic freedom.
But the court found some faults. It questioned Wankhede on why he filed the case in Delhi, noting a jurisdiction issue. It also raised concerns about how the series, despite being satirical, appears to target him based on his real-life history with Aryan Khan.
