Fortnite OG Returns as Permanent Game Mode, Brings Back Original Map and Gameplay

The original Fortnite Battle Royale has finally made its way back into the game, and this time, it’s not going away. If you’ve been missing those first-chapter vibes or want to see where it all started, you can drop into the exact same map right now!

What’s Coming With Fortnite OG

The original map is back with every chest, tree, and building in its exact old spot. You’ll find the weapons you might remember – Pump Shotguns, Burst Rifles, and even those old traps that used to catch everyone off guard. The Damage Trap, Ceiling Zapper, and Wall Dynamo are all coming back, and you can use them in Zero Build mode by placing them in buildings around the map.

You won’t have to deal with the clunky old movement, though. The game keeps some modern improvements to make things run smoother. You can still sprint and slide like in current Fortnite, and healing while moving remains possible. Building works as in today’s Battle Royale, but materials are capped at 999 to keep that original feeling.

Game Modes and Battle Pass Details

Once you load in, you can play Solos, Squads, or Zero Build immediately. If you’re playing Zero Build, you’ll find Ziplines and Ascenders added to help you get around the map without buildings. Ranked mode isn’t ready yet, but it’s along the way with some OG tournaments.

The new OG Pass comes with 45 tiers to unlock. You’ll get three main outfits – Renegade Rebel, Aerial Assault Bomber, and Skull Commander – plus an extra style for each one. The good part is you can level it up by playing any Fortnite mode, not just OG.

You’ve got until January 31, 2025, to play Season 1, and Epic’s adding more old items throughout the season just like they did back then.

Fortnite OG’s Return: A Perfect Return

Having OG Fortnite as a permanent mode makes sense. You can hop into the old map whenever you want without worrying about missing a limited event. The movement feels better than the original, but the weapons and map are exactly how you might remember them.

Adding Zero Build and keeping the modern controls while bringing back the classic weapons strikes a good balance. It’s not trying to be a perfect copy of 2017 Fortnite – it’s more like playing those old seasons with some quality-of-life improvements. Whether you played back then or just want to see what original Fortnite was about, you can now experience it at your own pace.
