Virtual Reality has become more accessible thanks to Meta’s Quest devices. Up until recently, the Meta Quest 3 had been the latest device from Meta, but other than being an expensive fun toy to play (or to use to watch porn), it couldn’t deliver much. But after Meta Connect 2024, Meta doubled down on VR and released a new, more affordable VR headset—the Meta Quest 3S—as well as upcoming updates for their latest headsets.
The Meta Quest 3S is available for pre-order for $299.99 on Amazon and comes with the upcoming Batman: Arkham Shadow and three months of Meta Quest+ included with your preorder set to release on Oct. 15.

You can think of the new Quest 3S as the budget version of the original Quest 3. It has the same Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip, Touch Plus controllers (except there’s no ring around your fingers), and runs all of the same apps. The battery life is slightly better (from 2.2 to 2.5 hours according to Meta), it has a button to go from AR to VR, and comes with three camera sensors on each side. However, the display resolution is lower with 1,832 x 1,920 pixels (same as the Quest 2), a more narrow field of view of 96 degrees (compared to 110), and there’s no depth sensor.
Meta says the Quest 3S is replacing the Quest 2 and they’re ending sales of the Quest Pro, but they will keep selling both older models until they run out of stock. Although the Meta Quest 3S comes out on Oct. 15, the Batman game is not set to release until Oct. 22. The regular Quest 3 will continue to cost $499 for the 512GB version, but will also come bundled with Batman: Arkham Shadow.
