UPDATED 10/2/2024: Windows 11 24H2 (2024 Update) is available starting October 1, 2024, for compatible devices, but if you plan to upgrade at a later time, you can download the official ISO file perform a clean install or an in-place upgrade on a spare computer or virtual machine. In this guide, I will outline four ways to complete the process through the official download page, Media Creation Tool, Windows Insider Program, and the UUP Dump script.

The recommended method to obtain the ISO file is using the Microsoft download page or Media Creation Tool, but during the early days of the rollout, you can also use the Windows Insider Program. Alternatively, it’s also possible to use the UUP Dump script.

The difference between the “Windows Insider Preview Downloads” page and the “UUP Dump” tool is that the “Insider” page allows you to download the official files when Microsoft believes a build is stable enough to be available through an ISO format. The “UUP Dump” is a collection of tools and scripts to download the latest builds from the official Microsoft servers and create an unofficial ISO file to install the operating system.

In this guide, I will teach you how to download the ISO file for any publicly available preview of Windows 11 (version 24H2) and create a USB bootable media with the Rufus tool.

Important: Either method you use will download the image from the Microsoft servers, but use these instructions at your own risk. You have been warned.
