You’ve probably noticed the battery icon in the Taskbar on your Windows 10 laptop or tablet. This visual element lets you know when your device is running on AC power and how much battery life is left at a glance.
However, to see the exact percentage of remaining battery life, you have to click the icon. While this works fine, you can get a much-improved visualization using third-party tools, such as BatteryBar and Battery Tracker.
In this guide, I’ll show you two apps to show the remaining battery percentage in the Taskbar.
Warning: You’ll be using a third-party app. While the app has been tested and works correctly, understand that using third-party tools can sometimes cause problems. Use it at your own risk. You’ve been warned.
Show battery percentage in Taskbar using BatteryBar
BatteryBar is a compact third-party battery meter application that accurately calculates your device’s battery life. It displays the exact percentage remaining with a superior icon in the Taskbar. You can even click the icon to see the time remaining while running on battery.
When you hover over the icon, the app also shows additional information, such as battery capacity, time remaining until fully charged, battery wear, and much more.
To add battery percentage with BatteryBar, use these steps:
-
Open the BatteryBar official download page site.
Quick note: Although there is a paid version, the free version is all you need. The link will trigger the download automatically.
-
Right-click the installer and choose the “Run as administrator” option.
-
Click the Next button.
-
Click the Agree button.
-
Click the Next button.
-
Click the Install button.
-
Click the Next button.
-
Click the Finish button.
Quick note: This application may require installing the latest version of the “.NET” framework. If this is the case, you will receive a notification to download it.
Once you complete the steps, you’ll notice a new battery icon in the Taskbar. It should be green, but it will change color as battery life decreases.
BatteryBar doesn’t offer any options to customize the icon, but its default appearance and functionality are better than Windows 10’s default battery icon, and it blends perfectly in the Taskbar.
Since you have a new battery icon that can also display the remaining percentage, you can always disable the system’s default battery icon from the Taskbar from Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Turn system icons on or off and turn off the “Power” toggle switch.
Show battery percentage in Taskbar using Battery Tracker
Unlike BatteryBar, the Battery Tracker app is a simple app that only shows the remaining battery percentage in the System Tray, blending well with the default battery icon on Windows 10.
To add battery percentage with Battery Tracker, use these steps:
-
Click the View in Store button.
-
Click the Get (or Install) button.
-
Click the Open button.
Quick note: You can always access the app from the Start menu.
After you complete the steps, the percentage number of the remaining battery will appear in the Taskbar.
You can also right-click the Battery Tracker icon and open the settings page to control different notifications, such as when the battery is fully charged, low in power, or reached a specific charge.
