With Phil Salt skippering and debutants including Jordan Cox, Jacob Bethell and, as a specialist batter, Jamie Overton, the home side looked a much changed outfit to the one that underwhelmed at the T20 World Cup. They’ll be sure to give the impression that the 28-run defeat will all be taken in their stride, but they’ll be desperate to bounce back in Cardiff and get a win into the books. No more so than all-rounder Sam Curran, who was embarrassed by Travis Head for a 30-run over.

Things couldn’t have started much better for the tourists in the 1st T20 international. Alongside Head’s 59 from 23, Matt Short showed that he may just be the David Warner replacement the Aussies have been yearning for. Josh Inglis was also able to reinforce his place as an impact batter-keeper, with veteran Josh Hazelwood showing that he still has plenty to offer with the white ball. With their foot on England’s throat, it’s unlikely they’ll be in any mood to give an inch.
