Priyanshu was only 21 years old. His role in Nagraj Manjule’s Jhund had brought him some recognition, especially because he starred alongside Amitabh Bachchan in that biographical sports film.

According to police reports, Priyanshu and the accused friend, Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu (20), had gone out late at night for a drinking session. The argument got heated, and Dhruv is said to have tied Priyanshu with wires and attacked him with a sharp weapon. Residents noticed Priyanshu lying half-naked in serious condition and called the police. He was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
