KB5053648 (build 22635.5097) for Windows 11 improves File Explorer and Sandbox in Beta Channel

Windows 11 build 22635.5097 is now rolling out in the Beta Channel as the update KB5053648 for version 23H2. This is a minor update that only includes a small set of fixes and improvements for File Explorer, Taskbar, Lock screen, and Sandbox.

According to the official changes, the Windows 11 update KB5053648 releases a new version of File Explorer that reflects the text scaling settings in different warning and error message dialogs when changing the “Text size” using the Accessibility options from the Settings app.

In addition, it addresses a blank bug for dates in files and folders on the Home page, problems with the search indexer, and issues launching File Explorer.

As part of the fixes for Taskbar, in this release, build 22635.5097 fixes the “Windows key + T” with arrows shortcut for Hebrew or Arabic languages.

Microsoft also fixes launching problems with voice typing for Chinese (Simplified), improves the web sign-in icon on the Sign-in screen, and addresses a problem with Sandbox not starting with error 0x80072746.

Known issues

As part of the known issues, the company notes some problems with the Start menu, more specifically with the “All” menu, which may show a delay in showing grid and categories views, and when opening the context menu, it may flash before the menu appears.

Installation process

To download and install this Windows 11 build, enroll your device in the Beta Channel through the “Windows Insider Program” settings from the “Update & Security” section. Once you enroll the computer in the program and click the “Check for Updates” button. Since this release is for version 23H2, don’t turn on the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option. Otherwise, the device will install the build in the Beta Channel but for version 24H2.

The new preview comes only a few days after the company released build 22635.5090 (KB5053649) in the same channel, which introduced improvements for Voice Access and several fixes for the operating system. In addition, this build also included some unannounced changes, such as new customization options for the Start menu and a new section on the “About” page known as “Frequently Asked Questions” designed to inform you about the version of the operating system and hardware installed on your computer.
