KB5054148 (build 26200.5510) for Windows 11 marks beginning of verison 25H2 (Dev Channel)

Microsoft has released the update KB5054148 as the Windows 11 build 26200.5510 in the Dev Channel. This update doesn’t include new features, but it jumps from the build 26120 to the 26200 series, which marks the next phase of the operating system.

According to the company notes, the Windows 11 update KB5054148 is still part of the version 24H2 development and contains the same features and improvements as the 26120 series. However, in future releases, Microsoft will start releasing new visuals and other types of changes that are likely to be part of version 25H2, which is due later this year.

It’s unclear what changes the company will be adding in this development. However, to start, it’s been noted that Qualcomm’s next processor will require some platform changes that were only available in the Canary Channel, and Microsoft is now bringing these changes to the Dev Channel.

Other fixes and known issues

As part of the known issues, Windows 11 build 26200.5510 will incorrectly reset to the build 26120 series instead of the 26200 series. Also, the “Check for Updates” button in the Windows Update settings may appear turned off, but it’s only a visual issue.

Microsoft also notes various other issues, including for Recall, Click to Do, Windows Search, File Explorer, and more.

• Recall: Microsoft recommends updating the 365 apps to open documents directly from Recall. Also, you may experience issues with saving new snapshots or modifying settings. Automatic snapshot saving may fail, and the setting may be unchangeable, and the feature binaries are currently cached for testing. They will be fully removed in a future update.
• Click to Do: Intelligent text actions are now locally moderated for enhanced security and are integrated into the feature. Additional context may appear in Phi Silica-powered text actions. The company recommends updating Photos and Paint to make sure everything works as expected.
• Windows Search: Plug in your Copilot+ PC to complete initial search indexing for optimal performance.
• File Explorer: The app may experience slow closure when using the “X” button, and Home may crash.
• Taskbar: Icons may not resize correctly in tablet mode.
• Task Manager: The System Idle Process may display as 0 in the new CPU Utility column, and CPU graphs on the Performance page are using outdated calculations.
• Widgets: The weather widget may be temporarily unavailable.

Installation process

To download and install this Windows 11 build, enroll your device in the Dev Channel through the “Windows Insider Program” settings from the “Update & Security” section. Once you enroll the computer in the program, you can download the build from the “Windows Update” settings by turning on the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option and clicking the “Check for Updates” button.
