McLeod Health Welcomes These New Physicians

McLeod Health welcomes Shayne Caswell, DO, and Nicole Vasquez Plaza, MD, to the medical staff.

Dr. Caswell joins Pee Dee Surgical Group, performing surgeries and procedures at McLeod Regional Medical Center. He earned his medical degree from Campbell University Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2018, completed a General Surgery Preliminary Internship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2019, and a General Surgery Residency at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System in 2024. In 2025, he completed a Fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System. Dr. Caswell is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Osteopathic Association, the Eastern Association for Surgery of Trauma, and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. Dr. Vasquez Plaza is a board-certified Family Medicine physician now seeing patients at Medical Plaza Family Medicine, located on the campus of McLeod Regional Medical Center. She joins Dr. Richard Alexander, Dr. Don Behling, Dr. Guy McClary, Dr. Cory Smith, and Nurse Practitioner Lisa Wallace in providing comprehensive primary care for patients of all ages. A native of Puerto Rico, Dr. Vasquez Plaza earned her medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in Saint Kitts and completed her residency training at McLeod Health. Fluent in Spanish and English, she has a special interest in women’s health and pediatrics and is now accepting new patients while welcoming her established patients to continue their care at her new location.
