The DC Universe Animated Original Movies is the comics publisher’s series of direct-to-video animated films produced primarily by Warner Bros. Animation and later DC Studios. The films were released beginning in 2007 and featured many standalone stories that often adapted popular DC Comics storylines and even original adventures.
The DC Animated Movie Universe also had its own shared universe continuity, which took heavy influence from DC Comics’ New 52 titles. These movies were largely aimed at an adult audience rather than targeted at kids, and often contained stronger depictions of violence, sexual content, and profanity.
Outside DC’s animated movies, several LEGO DC movies are also streaming for free on YouTube. These films were also typically released as direct-to-video or streaming content and feature DC’s iconic superheroes in LEGO form. Fans can currently watch LEGO Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes Unite and several LEGO movies starring the Justice League, DC Super Hero Girls, and Shazam: Magic and Monsters, among others.
The films that are streaming for free serve as a great introduction for new DC fans to watch some of the DC Universe’s animated original content, which the studio is still producing. Most recently, a sequel to Batman Ninja titled Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League, was released on March 18, 2025.
