‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ (2025)

If you thought the characters were vapid and superficial in the first version of I Know What You Did Last Summer, wait until you meet the new generation. In no time at all, you’ll be rooting for the killer, who still bears a striking resemblance to the Gorton’s fisherman.

Danica Richards (Madelyn Cline), Ava Brucks (Chase Sui Wonders), Milo Griffin (Jonah Hauer-King), Teddy Spencer (Tyriq Withers) and Stevie Ward (Sarah Pidgeon) cause a fatal accident during a night of partying, but the coverup is the real crime. One year later, a killer stalks them in a way that echoes the events of the first film. With nowhere else to turn, the group approaches the only remaining survivors of the first massacre, Ray Bronson (Freddie Prinze Jr.) and Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt).

‘Don’t Say a Word’ (2001)

The late Brittany Murphy costars in Don’t Say a Word as a teenager, Elisabeth Burrows, who has been deeply traumatized by the murder of her father. Child psychiatrist Nathan Conrad (Michael Douglas) barely has a chance to formulate a treatment for Elisabeth when his daughter, Jessie (Skye McCole Bartusiak), is kidnapped by Patrick Koster (Sean Bean) and the gang of thieves who killed Elizabeth’s dad.

Netflix’s thriller catalogue added some quality films for October, and they might just give you more thrills than a horror feature. Patrick uses Jessie’s life to blackmail Nathan into getting Elisabeth to reveal the location of a valuable gem that was stolen by her late father. First, Nathan has to win Elisabeth’s trust, and then he’ll have to stay one step ahead of the kidnappers, who aren’t known for keeping their victims alive.

‘The Perfect Neighbor’ (2025)

The Perfect Neighbor is one of the rare movies with a perfect 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. But this is far from an uplifting tale. Instead, it’s a true crime story about neighborhood harassment that spirals into violence. At the center of it all is Susan Lorincz, a woman who describes herself as a “perfect neighbor.” She’s anything but perfect as she constantly calls the cops on the children of Ajike “AJ” Shantrell Owens.

This film utilizes real 911 calls and police footage from the various times that Lorinez attempted to get law enforcement to go after Owens’ children. It also includes a sobering look at the night that gunshots rang out, which left a woman dead by her neighbor’s hands.

The Perfect Neighbor is streaming on Netflix.
